DIY Magic: Reviving a Dead Oven Display in Minutes! #shorts

My electric range cooker digital timer display suddenly locked out - just over a year after I bought it. Shamefully Stoves only offer a 1 year warranty. I'm not taking out expensive breakdown cover so I decided to fix it myself.

Good job. That’s Stoves’ customer service reputation in the gutter - useful to know!

Only change I'd make here is test the thing before I reassembled the whole oven in case some more fiddling was required.

Thank you for naming the company, that’s the most useful part of this video for someone not facing this exact issue.

Great work getting it fixed too!

It's soooo rewarding to figure something out without having to resort to calling a "professional"!

Even though it doesn't always work out. 😢 Great to see this worked out for you.

I have an AEG Induction. 5 year warranty, and 4 years 11 months down the road some of the buttons needed to be pressed harder. Engineer sent out and all fixed. One of the best companies I have dealt with.

Been keeping appliances alive like this for decades.

I would have gone to citizen's advice because warranty doesn't mean nothing, you have legal rights under the Consumer Rights Act to get a repair replacement, or refund.

This is the type of thing I regularly do in work. Stripping down items, I know nothing about to try and locate a fault. You're right, its so satisfying to fix a piece of kit you've never coma across before.

On the back of this video I would never buy a Stoves product. Great idea to show how easy it was to fix. No engineer needed.

I clean the glass on my oven door with the scraper I use for the glass ceramic top. It gives you much more control over the blade when it's got a nice, sturdy handle.

Great job Charlie, thanks for sharing and thanks for opening my eyes to how poor Stoves customer services are. Keep up the great work that you do 👍🏻 Happy New Year.

Reminds me of the first time I replaced a built in oven heating element; I pulled it out and started dissembling the back only to eventually realise it can be done while still in-built from the inside (just take the door off to make access easier).
Anyway, well done for sorting it out.
If you’d been unable to fix or indeed if a viewer has a similar situation don’t forget UK consumers are still covered by laws that new stuff must be fit for purpose and while they don’t express a set time period, no court would be happy an oven failed in a year, so you’d still be covered, the warranty is optional and they can set it as long it short as they like but it never replaces the legal requirement to be fit for purpose. A polite letter will usually prompt the seller to sort you out. If not lodging a small claims with courts (something like £25) probably will.

Fantasticly well timed video, we were just about to place our order a Stoves cooker for the new kitchen! Right we'll be spending little more for Rangemaster.

Consumer rights trump the warranty as previously mentioned (Martin Lewis does a good video on this) but well done for fixing and probably easier and quicker than the supplier

Putting the blade in a Stanley window scraper is a lot safer. Only about £2 or so. I used a blade myself a while ago and cut myself so I bought myself one.

Absolutely cracking job. One tip though.... cleaning oven doors, Cif (or Jif if you're old enough) is perfect, but you don't necessarily need to use a razor blade. A loose ball of tin foil does the trick. Same for any grease anywhere, like the cooker hood or splashback. The tin foil is soft enough that it won't leave scratch marks.

Well done you!
It’s definitely a no from me for any future Stoves purchase. Thanks for the heads up 😊

We have a Smeg range. The same problem occurred with ours: locked out after a power cut. You need to re-set the timer, but it wouldn't re-set. We got the company who installed it in. The engineer found the problem - the control button panel come adrift from the facia. I offered some superglue, which he used. Two years later it still works perfectly. Unfortunately we didn't get a discount on the repair for lending them the superglue.
