Today we have a 2012 Mazda CX-9 with a battery light illuminated, a dead battery, and the vehicle not charging. We go through the diagnostics and determine the cause to be a faulty alternator. I don't think this is how the repair manual says to do this job but this seemed like the easiest way we could come up with. It would help to have someone else to help push the engine back when you're getting the alternator out, but it can be done alone. Be careful around the A/C lines when removing. Our drive belt tensioner was seized so we don't have footage of belt removal or installation. We ended up removing the belt tensioner and replacing it but we do explain how to do it. This process should be the same for 2007 Mazda CX-9, 2008 Mazda, 2009 Mazda CX-9, 2010 Mazda CX-9, 2011 Mazda, 2012 Mazda CX-9, 2013 Mazda CX-9, 2014 Mazda CX-9, and 2015 Mazda CX-9 with the 3.7L V6. CX9

I must have watched 5-6 videos on how to change the alternator in this series CX-9 and thank God I waited and kept on looking because your video is obviously the easiest and fastest way to do it correctly without removing the radiator and moving the fans assembly !!! You all are the Best and thanks for saving me from going down the road to disaster !!!

I have watched so many bloody videos about this job. Thank you! This is hands down the best one I've seen. You actually showed your thought process. That is key. I still haven't gotten mine out, but I haven't taken the engine mount completely out either.

Just finished one of these. Just wanted to say thank you for the outside the box thinking. That alternator is a real pain to get out, but man is it worth it. Saved me a bunch of time and the trouble of draining/pulling the radiator.

Save yourself an hour of maneuvering the alternator out by removing the cooling fans (pinch the lines) . Takes 5-10 minutes, then the alternator can easily be removed.

you mention the B plus terminal main fuse as you are checking to see if its blown, where is this located at? Thanks!!!!

Why didnt you pull the fan shroud out instead of the motor mount?

My connector/pigtail on the alternator is bad I’m having trouble finding one, I have a 2008 cx-9. Would you know what part number or how do I make sure I’m getting the right one? My car shop can’t even find one.

Do I really have to move the engine to change the alternator? Can I remove the fan instead? I don’t want to start something I can’t finish

Any reman alternator that does not come with the bushing in the service position is a crap alternator. Also, just remove the fans and forget the motor mount removal.
