Don't forget to validate your ticket!

Tried this as a college student while in Munich 30+ years ago. Got caught and hauled into a back room for some severe questioning.

Public transport is always intimidating 🙂An English friend of mine was once caught in a subway in Budapest, he bought the damn ticket but did not know he needed to validate it.

In Italy is the same, you buy your ticket and then validate it before get on the train/bus. If not: 40 euros fine😅

Its not so much a trust thing when they check often. Its more of a fear of getting caught

in greece we no longer, at least where i take trains, have ticket controllers. they are very rare and i wouldn't believe that somebody saw one easily. a lot of teenagers go into buses and various railways without paying

i think that those people are not worth it because you have fear of getting caught and a lot of people still won't pay even if with a controller. for example passsengers going one station or hidden in a toilet (like how fidias got into trains in the uk)

LOL Vancouver was like this for many years before they installed gates! Didn't know they have UNDERCOVER ticket checker in Germany!

When I went to Munich the S Bahn didn't have ticket inspectors and the ticket machines were so hard to use/some don't work lol

I'm from Germany, I would never use the subway here without a ticket because they inspect really often and you have to pay 60€ and leave the train if caught evading the fare. It's just very awkward to get caught. When I'm in NYC I usually just go through the emergency exit door, really no one cares, even if this very loud alarm sounds. I would say that fare gates you can so easily
get by actually lead to more fare evasion...

I rode around all over the place for free while I was visiting for Oktoberfest lol. I think they sort of turn a blind eye with all the visitors there a lot of the trains are packed.

I’ve never been to Germany but can’t you buy tickets from the ticket inspectors? Because where I live (Slovakia) you can buy tickets directly from them and I’ve been to Austria, Hungary and the Czech Republic and this has never been a problem for them either. I almost always buy from the ticket inspectors

You'll remember the next time, after a 60Euro fine

Ahhh... The honor system. We don't have that in Brazil

It’s kinda funny that when it’s ICE you don’t have to validate your ticket but they still come and check your ticket anyway. 😅
