Making Carbon Fiber Coolant-Proof Housing to Protect Cameras | Markforged Mark Two 3D Printer

Because we film videos everyday, taking care of our cameras in a coolant-filled world is an actual problem for us, since these camera products aren’t really made with a machinist in mind. We decided to finally solve this issue with our new MarkForged Mark Two 3D Printer that 3D Prints Carbon Fiber as well as many other materials. We look forward to 3D Printing many cool things with it in the future…

We're always impressed by what TITANS comes up with - glad you're loving the Mark Two almost as much as we do. And shout out to Trevor for handling it like an absolute pro.

Nice 3D printer. Those are some great finishes on those camera housings.

I didn't expect anything less but this was amazing.

You need to start selling those on your website. Make attachments for the go pro as well.

I've used the onyx before for some difficult workholding. It takes one quite a bit of moisture/coolant and becomes soft after a while. Markforged printers are amazing but they keep increasing their prices

It’d be cool to see you help drive development/adoption of five axis 3D printing with your interest in composite additive manufacturing, since you only get horizontal orientation of fibers with standard Cartesian printing.

That's great! But...what if the Company you work for doesn't care about the future of the company? What if the owners would rather not own or run a machine shop? What if the owners said these exact things, in front of us?
I wish our owners could find that drive again! To run a machine shop that is bad ass and every employee is happy and feels like they're part of a family.
I've showed them your videos. I even showed them, on our machines, the same cuts you can see that little spark light up in their eyes...then it's gone.
I wish you could sit down with my owner and show him your vision.
He has it, deep inside. It comes out in bursts....then it dies.
I miss it when he had passion for the craft. When he saw us...as family, and not just someone who he pays to work for him....

I have not had good luck with carbon fiber filled filament. The fibers aren't long enough to be any structural benefit. Exactly the same strength as non carbon fiber filled.

I run this 3d printer at work. Onyx is some nice material and the markforged 3d printers are EPIC-ALLY reliable.

For extra credit - make a version with a secondary spinning window so that you do not need to worry about the coolant splashing on the housing window. Airblast may be simpler to implement, but this one would need no air supply. If you can make a system to spin it from the edge instead of center you wouldn't have to worry about blocking too much of the camera view.... Nice work and great looking prints from the Mark Forge!

Nice job with the credits at the end. That's what's up.

for how long can you withstand the urge to attach the camera housing to a cooling line from the cnc machine ? :)

Expect nothing less from the best minds in the industry 💯.

I’m kinda surprised the housing isn’t liquid cooled. 🤔

Really really cool work that carbon housing !! all the little details are impressive !! scuba type housings I figured you would have been using a long time ago...

Have you considered circulating compressed air through it for cooling instead of using a fan?
