Pain in abdomen in pregnancy. It is a very common symptom that we
encounter. Pain in abdomen in the first trimester there are different reasons for pain and abdomen if you are experiencing pain in the upper abdomen just below your ribs or if it is associated with gases and heartburn then we know that the pain is because of acidity. If the pain is in the central area alongside your belly button then it is most likely because of gases. This pain can be pricking, poking or pinching in nature. If the pain is in the lower abdomen on either sides then it is most likely a stretch pain. When your uterus grows in size the nerve fibers and ligaments attached to it get stretched and pulled and you might experience this occasional stretchy pulley pain in the lower abdomen alongside the uterus. This kind of pain is also absolutely harmless. If you are having pain and abdomen right in the center in the lower abdomen below your belly button and just above your pubic bone this could be a sign of a urinary tract infection. If you are having persistent pain which mimics the pain of periods or if you are having pain which is associated with any bleeding or spotting or back pain, it could be a pain because of miscarriage. In the second trimester pain and abdomen is mostly because of the enlarging uterus. The stretching pain the pulling pain might continue chances of gases and constipation are higher in the second trimester and you might experience this crampy spasmodic pain in the abdomen because of that. In the third trimester if the pain is on the right side just below your ribs then that could be because of high blood pressure. This kind of pain should be reported to your doctor immediately. Heart burns and pain just below your ribs in the center is again very common in the third trimester because the enlarging uterus pushes all the intestines and stomach to one side. There is no place for your intestines and food and obviously as a result tummy pain will happen occasionally the uterus also contracts causing discomfort and tearing pain sometimes. These are Braxton Hicks contractions. They come infrequently at no regular intervals randomly, last for a few seconds and go away. This kind of pain is also harmless. But if your abdominal pain is associated with regular uterine contractions, they are coming every 15 minutes or every 20 minutes and this has gone on for 2 or more hours, then this could be labor pain. You should report to your doctor immediately.
