Nearly 3/4ths of Americans believe in some sort of paranormal, whether that be ghosts, hauntings, or ESP. But scientifically, what explains why we feel a spooky presence in a condemned building or see spirits in the dead of night? Find out on Because Science with Kyle Hill.

0:38 How can you have hauntings without ghosts?

This reminds me of the hearty laugh we all had at work, when my assistant told me she had a ghost in her house simply because one area of the floor was always warm.  "You mean where the hot water pipe is?" I replied. I've never seen more grown men cry.

I used to wake up sleep paralyzed almost every night until I was about 15, and I've never seen anything like other people. Still scary because it feels like you'll never move again, but no hallucinations

Well done, Kyle. It's always great to see science explain something that is based far more on belief than any actual evidence, let alone proof. It'd be great if you kept on debunking the supernatural and pseudoscience. Not every video, but please keep tossing them in every once in a while.

I wish a bunch of skeptics go to a haunted place and tamper with 'cursed' objects to see if shits real or not

Wouldn't confirmation bias work both ways. If you believe, you with ignore evidence to the contrary. If you don't believe, you will ignore evidence of it being real

Honestly, theres a shit ton of unexplainable events out there that science just cannot explain. To say that it's a "hallucination" might have merit with SOME people, as a placebo effect is, but NOT everyone.

Kyle is right. We only turn to dirt when we die and nothing we ever did mattered.

I believe in ghosts if you define a ghost as “a presence without a physical body that displays characteristics of sentient intelligence.” It is not possible to define a ghost any more specifically than that without further data. This includes assertions of their origin.

Man this was a pretty good video and I like the part of the video when you say "when your looking for ghost you find them" it's interesting to think that we see what we only want to see.

Everything is Possible until proven otherwise!
I got one for you.
How do you explain both my parents (one, a huge sceptic) and myself all seeing a complete human silhouette at the base of the stares watching us as we watched TV. Thinking it was my brother - we asked him a question, he then turned and walked upstairs.
My brother wasn't upstairs, and it wasn't a shadow or a group hallucination as we all saw it from different angles.

Human ghosts or photonic illusions, they are completely harmless. They can't hurt you, and you can't hurt them.

I use to believe in ghost and possessions until I learned of sleep paralyses and realize that I suffer from it more frequently then normal people. Shit's still scary though.

I saw a ghost, twice in fact, but I don't believe in them. When I was a kid I went on holiday stopping in an old large house in Wales. I was sent to bed on the first night and as I left the living room and turned to go upstairs, that is where I saw it. Standing on the landing at the top of the stairs looking down at me was the figure of a man in Napoleonic period army uniform. I ran screaming back into the living room and refused to sleep in my allotted room which looked out onto this landing, choosing instead to sleep up in the pitch black attic where I actually felt safer. Over the holiday I saw the same image at least once more and it freaked me the he'll out. So why so sceptical? I know what I saw and can recall it vividly, however, as I've grown up I have come to the conclusion that a much more likely explanation comes from being young, in a strange environment, being sent to bed (so reluctance), being tired and the interplay of light on a set of glass balcony doors on the landing. I do think that my brain jumping to quick conclusion of what a quick flash of reflected light could of been does make more sense, especially when the uniform in question was blue rather than red... nice try brain, but you screwed up on the details ;o)
