This old man may be off the grid for half a century deep in the mountains, but he is no wild man. He is an intellectual. My respect.

A man living in a remote off the grid location for 50 years below the poverty line, is more composed and better spoken than a lot of public figures in 2023.

Joe Hollis passed away in November, like 3 months after this video was posted. I like to think he saw the huge respect and attention to his work and felt like his dreams had come true- that people were flocking to his vision and he felt at peace. RIP .

The part when he asked "are you still learning in this world?" The way he said "oh, it's endless." Gave me so much hope. I've been struggling for almost a year to stay alive and I just really needed to hear that.

I grew up in Celo/Asheville. My grandmother is part of the community. Joe just passed away last week. What a lovely man. He left nothing but positivity behind

Had the pleasure of meeting and helping Joe clean up and start rebuilding the library. Always made me feel at home. Loved my time there.

Had the great fortune to have Joe as a teacher and visited his property numerous times to learn and garden. True garden wizard. RIP Joe.
Thanks for the video. Great to see him again in this way. 🙏

The craziest part of what you do Peter is 99% of the people watching this video would have never known or this man he would have blown in the wind of eternity. NOW his story lives with us and we take a part of him with us forever. You are doing some powerful work please never quit.

This man talking like he's 20 years old with his whole life ahead of him still making all these plans for the future. Incredible mentality. A lot of respect to this man.

This old man is a national treasure, any young person wanting to better there futures would be a fool not to spend time learning from him.we need more like him if we want to save our children's world.

I've been out at this man's property. He gives tours of the herbs and plants he grows and three years ago when I visited it was hard for me and other 20-30 year old's to keep up with him. Just zips around. He's a wealth of knowledge, his book collection was incredibly impressive.

I’m from a tribe in Borneo and I’m glad this old guy had the opportunity to experience our culture first hand and that it had a profound impact on the rest of his life. I noticed a couple of Borneo artifacts in his house - 21:30 a beadwork wall hanging by the door and a Borneo shield on the wall by the stairs just above his head (26:19). Much respect to what he’s doing. We, in Sarawak, Borneo, owe a lot of gratitude to all the Peace Corps workers who came in the 1960’s and 70’s to teach at our schools or work on agriculture.

"We no longer have a valid niche." I've never heard anyone explain our predicament so simply and accurately. Thank you for this video. Joe is a brilliant man! He taught me loads in just these 45 minuets. May he be at ease and may his legacy live on

Fantastic! I'm a 78 year old retired architect. My greatest regret is joining the society at large and wasting my life doing what the people with money request. I envy Joe Hollis and celebrate his life. Way to go, Joe!

Joe was recently diagnosed with cancer and is now in hospice care. The gofundme for him the mountain garden just released this news.
Watching this video again in honor of Joe and all the good he brought to this world.

This is what should be on the Internet. You gave this man a voice and immortalised him and his work. Beautiful. Hope someone shows the love in that place like he did
