What is Net Neutrality?

Basically what this means is that if the net netruality laws are gotten rid of that you would have to pay to see and use certain stuff. Imagine that you decide to go onto YouTube, but instead of getting on YouTube you get a screen that says you have to pay money to get onto the site. The net neutrality laws prevent this from happening. This is what the government is attempting to get rid of on December 14th.

This explanation is so quick that I am confused. Lol

So, to continue the analogy, if the new FCC regulations pass, what would happen is that the sorting facility can pick and choose which packages it prioritizes. The sorting facility can dedicate 1 truck for Hulu and maybe 2 trucks for Amazon, and half a truck for Netflix and maybe dedicate 5 trucks to their own movies services website. Then, they can push all other content with the half-filled Netflix truck.

This is exactly why I'm not relying on the media to report me the news on net neutrality

Outlaw the submission of corrupt proposals or these fights will end with the weary American public succumbing to the persistence of the power hungry.

I think CGP Grey explains this a little better...

The serious problem with NN is the untold powers written into the law that go along with the basic understanding which is the only part we are being told. The government would be given far more power that anyone would ever want. Let the courts work out any problems then let us hear THAT case before we go passing a law with serious unforeseen consequences.

My company has tiered speed and charges for slow to faster speeds. Rich people get fast internet than the poor man

This is not right as you have always paid more for higher bandwidth, so higher speeds cost more. The issue is with ISPs determining that Netflix, a partner, will get preferential flow through its networks, while Amazon/Google/Hulu would either not be allowed or would be put into slower queues. This would allow ISPs to partner with other end points on the web and give them a leg up on others. Net neutrality means such business-reasoning for changing packet throughput is illegal.

I clicked on this bideo and an ad popped up that explained what net neutrality was before the video started. I'm only on this video to post this now.

There's not enough information in this video for it to be beneficial to anyone.

_All this time, I thought it was a threat of bandwidth throttling by the I.S.P._

Everyone, no matter who they are, should have the same amount of access to the internet, not paying up to big companies. This is the epitome of capitalism being austistic.
