Tyler, The Creator is never afraid to give flowers to those he admires. Those who caught Pharrell’s Something In The Water festival last week witnessed just that when he crowned the N.E.R.D legend “the greatest of all time,” and Kendrick Lamar is another artist Tyler holds in high regard.

During his second “All Star Series” conversation with Converse that was recently held in Paris, Tyler spoke about the importance of being honest and having the courage to openly show one’s emotions, which led him to talking about Kendrick’s latest album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.

Tyler is spot tf on. you see the generational divide between the old heads saying this generation is too sensitive vs. the upcoming generation saying "its cool to care". Whats REALLY the harm in honesty and giving a shit?

I’d really like to hear Tyler and Kendrick work together on a song

Tyler is on point and also right about how some people out there can’t take the honesty on Kendrick’s album.
I love this album it’s album of the year so far for me.

Kendrick’s album is therapeutic. My guess, for himself and for us. Only those of us that are already in a space where we are ok with being vulnerable and open about our truths . And not necessarily having to do with every subject matter that he speaks about on this album, but the act of just sharing our stories candidly.

'I can't please everybody" "I am not your savior". It's a direct continuation from the themes in TPAB, especially Mortal Man. "When ish hits the fan, is u still a fan?"

Mr. Morale and The Big Steppers ripped me out of writer's block. That's how inspiring and raw this album is. It didn't just inspire me to write again, it forced me to.

Tyler has a solid point. To be this open on a record that's going to be listened to many hundred thousands of people, it takes courage. And same for listening to the same album and taking in full something so personal.

Tyler’s observation that KL’s music “looks [people] in their eyes” is rly spot on

When an artist releases their honest, honest emotions on music it's meant to stand out and be great!

That album is so real. Mother I sober gets too deep and emotional.

I really appreciate this coming from Tyler cause Flower Boy, Igor, and CMIYGL are super honest in their own right too just from a younger person's viewpoint vs Kendrick's older more mature viewpoint.

Tyler is damn good at speaking off the cuff, and really getting to the point in an illustrative way

Wow. What Tyler Is saying about Mr Morale is spot on. People are very afraid of listening to it, because it triggers the subconscious in them. He's speaking from the subconscious, and that's what resonates with the listener; the subconscious. The subconscious, if not processed can be scary

Good artists read the room and make relevant music. Great artists like Kendrick read the world and prepare medicine in the form of lyrics and music. In a post pandemic world a lot of us needed self introspection and healing. Kendrick is a prophet, the 🐐

I really think he’s right. Kendrick saw this coming; it’s what the Big Steppers are, right?
