After watching a documentary about how fungus purposely clears paths in the Forrest into clearings with fresh vegetation for deers to follow and consume so this way the fungus can travel through digestion to widen their territory, this is quite frightening. Fungus is quite scary really

Oh Stefan was born after his mother became a tree. And somehow he is immune to the fungus, but is also still a carrier of it. So he goes to the city and basically destroys humanity by leaving fungai everywhere.

Child: "Mommy, I want The Last of Us!"
Mother: "We have The Last of Us at home."

i take it this is the closest we'll get to a Last of Us movie

Ahh so the son is immune to the fungi, making him a carrier

Fun fact there is something exactly like this but it only works on insects. It covers the insect in fungus and controls its nervous system to make it go high up into the sunlight to make the fungus grow fully over its body then the main fungus starts growing out of the insects head into a long fungus which will then spread the parasite

Definitely thought of the cordyceps fungi and the Last of Us when watching this

I really hate watching movies since it takes so long but because of this it becomes so interesting.

Shocking twist. This is the prequel of The Last of Us

The son is immune because he is the offspring of the spore tree and the human father, making him unaffected by the own mold he create, whilst retaining his human form

So his dad was right if his son goes into the city there would be an end to the world

The scary part is that such a fungus does actualy exsist in real life, but not to an extend were it could infect and controll something other than insects.

It´s called "Ophiocordyceps unilateralis" and is pretty fascinating as well as scary if it was able to infect humans. It´s a fungus that infects ants and other small insects. The spores attach themself to the exoskelleton of the insect and spread to the brain. At this point the fungus "controlls" the host and lets it travel to an ellivated location with enough sunlight, befor it breaks through the exoskelleton to release new spores.
The Last of Us and this movie probably too, is actualy based on this real life "zombie fungus".

The terrifying creature looks like an extra from A Mid Summer Night's Dream.

Even in a recap video, you can clearly see the amazing cinematography in the scenes of this movie. The forest scenes and the lake scenes shot from top and everything else are really beautiful....idk maybe it's just me.

Fun fact: cordyceps is a real fungus, it can only take over bugs though so it’s not dangerous to humans

Edit: PEOPLE, I GET IT - yet

They are in South Africa and they don't have MTN service? Unrealistic.

So i kinda see this as a prologue to the events of The Last of Us, as the boy leaves the isolated area he lived in and travels to the city, he begins to spread it and people related it to contamined food by crops in south america (just like the game show us at the beggining)

We estimate that there is about 2 to 4 million species of mushrooms and we know about 120 thousands of them. Fungi are a very interesting branch of evolution and they are great chemists. Who knows what they could develop if they discover controlling humans to be an efficient evolutive strategy
