in case of anybody worried about this actually potentially happening due to the parasite being an actual species. Insects and Humans are very different species. It would take a period of time longer much then any human's lifespan for such a massive species jump to even be possible enough to worry about.

These parasites infect insects but they don't necessarily kill their hosts it's just dependent on whether their hosts could swim or not and insects don't really practice swimming. Some or most humans could swim so the fatality rate shouldn't be that high.
