Introducing Interactive Reading to the Duolingo English Test! These question types help evaluate the reading and comprehension skills you will use at university.

About Interactive Reading
There are two Interactive Reading passages on the test, with 6 questions each. One passage will be narrative (like a story) and one will expository (informative or educational).

You will have a time limit to answer the full set of questions for each passage. Depending on the passage, the time limit to complete all the Interactive Reading tasks is either 7 minutes or 8 minutes. As you move through the questions, more of the passage will be revealed.

These question types will contribute to the overall Duolingo English Test score, in addition to the Literacy and Comprehension subscores.

Question Types
Complete the Sentences
This question type asks you to "Select the best option for each missing word." In this task, you will see a passage with several blank spaces and select a word to complete the sentence.

There will be one Complete the Sentences question for each Interactive Reading passage.

Complete the Passage
This question type asks you to "Select the best sentence to fill in the blank." In this task, you will see two sections of a passage with a missing sentence in the middle and select a sentence to complete the passage.

There will be one Complete the Passage question for each Interactive Reading passage.

Highlight the Answer
This question type asks you to "Click and drag the text to highlight the answer to the question below." In this task, you will see a question on screen, then find and highlight the answer within the passage.

There will be two Highlight the Answer questions for each Interactive Reading passage.

Identify the Idea
This question type asks you to "Select the idea that is expressed in the passage." In this task, you will select an idea from the list that best represents what you read in the passage.

There will be one Identify the Idea question for each Interactive Reading passage.

Title the Passage
This question type asks you to "Select the best title of the passage." You will select a title from a list of given options.

There will be one Title the Passage question for each Interactive Reading passage.

Test Length
The test will still be one hour long. To make room for the Interactive Reading questions, a certain number of each existing question type are being removed from earlier in the test. However, no question types are being entirely removed from the test. Please see our Test Readiness Guide for more information about the frequency of question types.

Duolingo test is really becoming annoying! You change rules every month and you do not say that you will change them! You just change them because it is easy for you because it is an online test. This is really NOT PROFESSIONAL at all!

😑😑😑😑😑 worst idea ever....reading part is so confusing, it is never clear if it is 2 words, 5 words or sentence. It is not fair, people that wrote the test only one month ago didn't have the reading! I asked your support if you will make changes and they just said it maybe not be a part of the test at all in the end and now you decided to put it without announcing it.... this is not cool!

When highlighting the answer it is mandatory to highlight form dot to dot?

How can I know what is correct in the underline the sentence part???? I talked with a couple of my friends about this part and we always have different answers for that task on the practice test and everyone has a good reason why they chose what they chose. So that shows me that there is not one single answer. If there is not one single answer that means your test is not good because the answers are not black and white!

The underline task at interactive reading section doesn't work! I've took a practice test several times on different devices from different accounts but it never worked. I can't push the button, and I have to wait till the time runs out. I'm afraid that the same issue can happen at real test.

Duolingo is just crap.. No offence!
The security system is lame! For example, you take a test.. you spend an entire hour trying to do everything right but then you find out in your results that microphone was not working, camera was not working (even though you did complete the mic testing before the test and you could cleared see yourself in the camera)
And none of the sitting positions work!
If you sit close they say your shoulders are not visible and if you sit far they say you should sit close!
All in all! It’s such a waste of time! And truth be told it’s nothing like IELTS! IELTS is a standard language test whereas duolingo is just a scam! A waste of money, time and patience!
