Kasi Howard, PsyD, holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. She began her work with eating disorders in 2006 and has developed several group curricula, including a seminar designed to promote a healthy body image in young females and an educational support group for spouses and significant others of those who suffer from an eating disorder. She has been an adjunct professor at Trinity University in San Antonio, and served as President of the Bexar County Psychological Association and is a member of the Academy of Eating Disorders and the Texas Psychological Association

In this 6-part video series, Dr. Howard presents “Eating Disorders: Signs, Symptoms and Interventions.”

The video series covers a clinical presentation of eating disorders, including diagnostic changes from DSM 5, statistic and research citations, and further educational resource recommendations. Her learning objectives for this presentation included highlighting changes in eating disorder diagnosis in DSM 5, discussing appropriate treatment and referral options for eating disorder patients, and identifying signs and symptoms of an eating disorder.

In Part 1, Dr. Howard discusses types of eating disorders, DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for anorexia, and the signs and consequences of anorexia.

Of all the money we are sending to other countries, we don’t have enough to take care of such a deadly disease. My 40 year old family member is on year 4 of her ED and is dying before our eyes. No one has $70, 000 or even $5, 000 to get treatment for her, so I guess she will just end up a statistic. Shame on our system, shame on America. 😭😭😭
