Building Quant Careers

How do you get ahead in a quantitative finance career? In this video I discuss the importance of setting goals, the non-linear fashion of careers, and the importance of developing both quantitative and soft skills. Setting the goal itself is a complex process as everyone assumes they want to be senior management without thinking about the required skills for the job. Many quants truly enjoy the quantitative work and moving away from that for a senior management role often isn't fulfilling. As an industry I think we need to address the outdated idea that managers get paid more than individual contributors instead of reviewing what is the contribution to the business.

good stuff dimitri. I moved from a finance undergrad into the math program and I definitely think people in technical fields underestimate the importance of soft skills and being likable

using a Mandelbrot set to show the relationship between time, stability, and predictability. spoken like a true stationarity/time series expert ;)

Great Analogy with Mandelbrot and very funny to think about.

Great video. I learned a lot. Have you ever discussed undergrad colleges that are a target for quants?
