Been Playing God of War Ragnarok and I got to this scene & I really loved the advice Kratos & Mimir gave Atreus when he asked when he would get Big Muscles like his father & I was surprised at how well done it was said by the Ghost of Sparta himself. HOWEVER Did you know theres a lot of real attributes of not only the Spartan Training but the bodybuilding work Kratos mentioned? Today lets talk about that in depth.

there’s a quote that goes “Improving your body is not what makes you stronger. Becoming stronger is what improves your body”

I love how this implies, that Kratos doesn't need to be built like a god (of war) to be this strong. He just does it because he can.

I really love how Kratos mentions discipline because it's very important when working out or any goal, motivation is very great but it's also very good to have discipline as well.

This one really blew up! Great work as usual man.

Given that Kratos sometimes struggles with relatively small tasks and that he gets significantly stronger when using his rage, I always got the impression that his super strength is variable. That he can control how strong he is at any given moment. Because of this, I imagine that he could probably do normal workouts and get as much out of it as anyone else

I like that older Kratos is wiser, it's something that a lot of these old franchises fail to understand about further developing their characters

This was a awesome video

the fact that he mention his strength doesn't come from his body is so true as well, he understand the gods have their strength by godhood, but doesn't equal to the mental strength to control them, meaning its relatively harder to learn "not to abuse it"
(as shown by young atreus in 2018)

and given the condition that Greek gods get stronger by age, working out not only to look good, but a great way to strengthen your mind at the same time,
Ironically I think this translate so well, felt like a heartfelt message that if we want to be virtuous, and strong mind is necessary, and the best way to do so is simply start exercising

Totally agree with the strength comparison. I work in the steel industry, I’ve been lifting heavy shit into weird positions for years. I had an operator who had big muscles and hit the gym every day where I’m more of a wiry dude (nice word for skinny lol)
We had to lift drive shafts into a weird position one day and I had my big guy do it because he’s “stronger than me” but he struggled hard and I ended up having to do it for him. That was the day I learned the difference between “worker strength” as opposed to “even weight lifting strength”

This does actually put into perspective why Thor's physique works so well too.

Kratos was carved through discipline and training by a literal warrior culture.

Thor is a bar brawler who drinks, parties, and fights all day.

It's funny hearing Atreus say that Baldur didn't have any muscles, when he's actually pretty ripped by normal standards and I'd love to look like him.

I LOVED the explanation of discipline Kratos gave Atreus. Another part that just sent chills was the line "Death can have me when it earns me"
Gotta be one of the best lines in videogame history.

Also I'm not sure how I've worked out for the past year in that greasing the groove style and only heard about the actual term today haha

I’ve been going to the gym for years but lately Kratos has been my workout inspiration lmao. Today was chest & back and for my main lift I hit 275 lbs on bench for 5 sets of 5, with a superset of weighted chin ups with 90 lbs around my waist. In between sets I’ll watch God of War Ragnarok fight scenes and during my sets I’ll listen to either viking metal or the game soundtrack. That shit works 😂

actually really cool fact by kratos. in my parent home, there are people that insanely strong just by doing their daily work in their farm (it really traditional place) but does not have insanely big muscle. building muscle does not just being strong, it also mean studying your own body and breaking your own limit.

I like that his answer in terms of how to get said godly gainz, is to work out just like everybody else.

If there's one thing I love about Kratos, is that he didn't get that powerlifter physique through pure Godlike Genetics, but hard work like any mortal would do!

He was Half-Mortal after all! :D

“Big muscles don’t mean you’re very strong.” Very true words. My arms are more on the slim side but I work on all kinds of building projects and I ended up shockingly strong for my size, it’s practical muscle build from a very young age

Honestly this is so true. PowerLifting and strength training means lifting heavy af weight from point A to B but bodybuilding means lifting lighter weights many times for breaking the muscle and forcing it to grow bigger.
