In this video we'll draw the graph for y = -2.

First, we will use a table of values to plot points on the graph. Once we have two or three points, we can draw our line for the linear equation. You can choose any values of x for your table, however, 0, 1, and 2 are often best since they result in whole numbers and points that will fit on your graph paper.

Since y = -2 any point we have on the graph for x will always be at -2 on the y-axis. So if we have 0 for x, y will still be negative two (0, -2). If we have 3 for x, y will still be negative two (3, -2). Therefore we end up with a vertical line across the y-axis.

We can also use the slope intercept form to draw the graph. Here we use the general format y=mx + b (sometimes written y=mx + b).

b tells us where the graph crosses the y axis.
