The Best Dress Watches For the Money - NOMOS Orion, Ludwig, Tangente Review ($2,000)

In my time as a watch collector, my tastes have certainly changed quite a bit, but if I have to identify my first love in watchmaking in terms of the type of style that drew me in, it was the dress watch, and to pinpoint even further, Germany’s take on the dress watches. This draw towards these types of watches transitioned into dollars spent a few years ago after the purchase of my NOMOS Orion, a watch that after years of owning I want to revisit with a review, along with two other dress models within NOMOS’ catalog that to me represent the best dress watches one can buy for their price point.

Hi everyone, thanks for watching. With these difficult times facing us, I just want to wish you all health and safety. At the moment, watches seem a little less important than usual, however, I hope these videos can offer some sense of escape from the challenges of this pandemic. Thankfully, I did manage to shoot several videos in the past several weeks that will allow me to upload quite a bit of content in the coming month despite the shutdowns and quarantines. Again, I wish you all the best and thank you for watching!

March 14th: spends almost $2, 000 to buy a new Nomos dress watch for large business meetings, formal event, and going out to fancy restaurants or to the the opera...March 15th: everyone is quarantined for a month or more.

When I show my watch collection to my friends, the Nomos and the Junghans Max Bill always get the most compliments. People seem to like them more than any casual or sporty watches.

It's all fun and games until someone calls your NOMOS a Daniel Wellington rip off 😂
Nice video, Teddy!

Bought a Nomos Orion about 18 months ago as my first mechanical watch and my first watch since a casio about 20 years ago. It’s genuinely given me a love of watches. Added a Stowa Partito about a year ago and now love it too. Just about ready to get my first vintage watch now with a blue dial Datejust top of my list. Stumbled across your videos researching that purchases and I appreciate the enthusiasm and knowledge. Cheers!

Dude, you have hands down one of the best production value in your watch videos I've ever seen. Keep up the good work!

Glad you reviewed nomos. Tangente was my first watch and still my fav for everyday work use.

Hey Teddy,
Great video all the way.
I bought my Metro 38 last year after the thorough research (I was going to buy tangente at first)
After I found your channel, Istart following the watches industry because of you, please continue making the great videos.
Cheers!

Just bought an Orion 2 weeks ago. It's amazing! I recommend getting a deployment clasp for it! They also offer short straps for tiny wrists!

The quality of your videos has become insane! Keep up the good work!
Personally, my style is smart casual (Shirts & chinos or dark jeans), but I love dress watches so much they make most of my collection. I try to dress them with strap.
But usually, the elegance of a dress watch cannot be beaten

Teddy! I love all the time you take to make these Quality videos. One thing I'd love to see more though, is more time spent on wrist shots.

Love Nomos, been saving up for one the past year – probably a Metro 35 in midnight blue. I think they are making really unique, timeless watches, great movements, all at rock solid prices. I’m mostly a tool watch guy but I’d like to expand the dress watch side of my collection. I’d love to see you review the Metro!

The Nomos is amazing, i really like the design, same aesthetic as the Junghans Max Bil, very legible, minimalist, clean and striking

Very nice overview Teddy! I’ve recently ventured from sports watch to the realm of dress watches thanks to reviews from yourself and the good folks at Hodinkee. I’ve become captivated with the simplistic beauty of Nomos, particularly the Orion 38mm Midnight Blue Ref. 389. Dollar for dollar it’s the best value dress watch IMO. Overall I feel like the brand is definitely deserving of a spot in the “Modern Day Trinity” alongside Grand Seiko and Tudor for producing affordable options to the likes of their more expensive Swiss competitors. Thanks again for the great video and keep up the great work!

Absolutely love your video and this brand that you made me discover. It's crazy now how any watch looks either bulky or cheap or dull compared to these. Pure elegance.
