I love how the movie doesn't demonize robots, but makes them able and helpful contributors to the effort. Afterall, that's what they'd be programmed to do!

for me interstellar is a master piece.

Your dead inside Adam. Sorry. That soundtrack made it 67 times more emotional than it already was.

TARS is one of the main reasons I wanted to see Interstellar. Such a fantastic robot.

"Why colonize planets around a blackhole?" seems to be one of the biggest issues I hear when people point out flaws in the movie. For what it's worth, I have some thoughts on the matter.

The reason "the others" guided humanity towards worlds around the blackhole, Gargantua, is that there was still one critical piece of the puzzle they needed to fill before humanity could be saved: humans needed to scientifically master gravity. "The others" knew how - but lacked a direct means of communicating it. They needed a go-between, and that meant orchestrating events so that one of them would wind up in a singularity to do just that.

I would argue that the planets were chosen specifically because they *were* around Garguantua. Humans were lured there thinking the planets were the target, when in fact it was the blackhole itself. The planets merely served as a lure/additional benefit.

If that makes sense?

Now I'm imagining a whole bunch of robotics engineers watching Interstellar and going "Shit, that's good. We should get on that."

I thought the plot was very moving, especially the father/daughter relationship. I tear up everytime near the end when Cooper is yelling at himself to stay and when he meets Murph as an older woman. Very moving.

TARS is the best protagonist in Interstellar.

The voice acting for TARS and CASE was just phenomenal

The reason that the wormhole had to connect to a black hole system is because humans needed to enter the black hole to obtain the quantum data needed for developing the theory of quantum gravity.  That understanding was needed to allow humans to control gravity sufficiently to get off earth in large numbers.  The wormhole was created by an advanced civilization to allow humans to escape extinction on earth.  Just connecting to a habitable planet does not allow for the necessary jump in understanding - its just like moving a fish to another aquarium.

What?  I, a full grown man, with no children, almost cried several times throughout the movie.

I loved tars from the start, the humor, the voice, how it moves, how it looks... The entire movie i hoped he didnt die. My favourite character from the entire movie and my favourite robot from all movies

It pisses me off that everyone always complains about, "Why would the only viable planets be near a black hole?" because all that really reveals is a misunderstanding of the plot, as recall,
*SPOILERS*
it was 5th dimensional *humanity* who put the wormhole there in the first place, and similarly it was 5th dimensional *humanity* who built the tesseract within Gargantua's gentle singularity. Its very likely that the reason 5th-dimensional humans sent the astronauts to *that* system -- to *those* planets around Gargantua -- is *because* its where the tesseract was built! Without which, none of the quantum data could have been relayed to Murphy back on Earth, and humanity could have never escaped their own extinction using 5th dimensional technology (manipulation of, or control over, gravity).
Its true that in normal circumstances a black hole would be a very unlikely place for habitable planets to orbit, and would be a very unlikely place to call a new home, but these were *NOT* normal circumstances. Its even plausible that the 5th dimensional humans never intended the humans to settle those worlds at all!! They only needed to get Cooper to Gargantua for the successful end result

how can someone NOT be moved by the plot? Cooper saying goodbye to Murph and Cooper watching his children all grown up were the most emotional scenes I've ever seen in a movie.

Gotta disagree with Savage on the plot.  I thought it was incredibly moving.

TARS was my favorite part of the movie too. I agree there should be a whole movie about those kinds of bots.
The interesting thing is that when the bot first made its appearance (the interrogation) I was like "WTF, this is their idea of a robot? A guy in a box????) It seemed clunky and cheap..like the movie makers had run out of ideas and/or budget. However, as the movie progressed and those bots (and their personalities) got more and more complex, it was quite fascinating.

I loved the plot.. since I m a science geek but I love the movie. science fiction is all about science with a little bit of fiction. so the movie is completely justified. Christopher Nolan is legend. and nobody would have presented the movie the way Nolan has.

wasn't moved by the plot...?

I feel kinda sorry for him over that....I mean generally...he won't be moved by much, if not by mythbuster

Heartless bastard lol. The movie made me cry like a little girl. This dude obviously doesn't have a daughter.

I would have cried if my friends are not beside me. I am very curious why you are not moved.
