I agree with you 100% in all those itens… I’d add the very long and pointy nails, false eyebrows that look like Nike simbol, tops that are so short they look like a bra …the list never ends!!!!

I agree with all of this, except I do love Boho. As I get older I can only get away with one boho piece and then dress it up with classic pieces. The look fits my personality, and makes me happy.

“Boho” today is a mass-marketed brand. Back in the hippie-dippy ‘70’s, we penniless college girls would repurpose old dresses and other finds from resale shops. It was a one-of-a-kind look which has thankfully seen its day. 😉

Agreed on crocs, however Uggs are a godsend in snow country.

Agree. I also don’t wear cropped pants. I’m short and curvy and I think it makes me look even shorter, almost square.

I agree with your choices completely, especially about the visible underwear.

Agree to all, except yellow. :) Never liked yellow, but recently I found that it compliments well my navy wardrobe. Specially in Sweden the combination of blue and yellow feels very natural. 🇸🇪

Dear Marie-Anne, thank you so much. I have realized a few mistakes I made in the last 5 years. I am 87 and still very interested in my looks. With your hints I will be finally able to do a so called capsule wardrobe!
Many many thanks! 💝

I do wear tights - under my trousers or jeans in the winter for added warmth.

Agreed. Except for soft yellow in the summer.

I was recently in France for 5 months for my student exchange and I have to admit - I've rarely seen French people where the things you do not wear. Even on a grocery store run, the ordinary French person dresses very well.

Your disdain for American casual wear ( hoodies, athleisure etc.) Is soooo very French. Hahahaha, love it.

It's easy to slip into "comfortwear' and get lazy but my mother is like you and always reminds me to "be elegant even at home". :)

I went to Paris for the 1st time in 1995 and I fell in love with how French women dressed. It totally changed me. At the time, everyone was wearing sweats everywhere in the US but not a single woman in Paris was wearing them. Not one. I noticed other things too and took them to heart. My rule of thumb ever since has been: don't wear anything you wouldn't be proud to wear in Paris (no yoga pants in public, none of the things you mentioned, etc). So, always keeping an eye out for what French women are wearing...which is exactly why I subscribe to your channel! LOVED THIS video. Merci bien for sharing it.

I couldn't agree more on such a list! Although I have to admit I wear some of the items but only at home as loungewear, why people would wear such things in any other situation is beyond me.
I will add to the list dirty shoes, nothing breaks a nice outfit like a pair of dusty or muddy shoes.

I am Australian so I love my Ugg boots. It took me a long time to buy a pair because I too thought they were very ugly but they are the warmest most comfortable things I’ve ever put on my feet. Coming from someone who’s always cold.
Strictly for home for me!

Such good advice Anne-Marie, the only item on this list that I do own is leggings but I always wear them like tights with a knee length top or dress. I despair when I look around and see so many women wearing clothes that don't fit or suit them, what happened to elegance and decorum!

I fully agree with everything Marie-Anne. My only exception is legging type trousers that I would wear with a tunic sweater, blouse or long cardigan, long enough to cover my whole 'bottom' area (not a dress). It can't be thin leggings, must be thicker good quality type.

Apart from Ugg boots and Crocs - I absolutely agree on everything you said! Especially the legging-trend is a real mystery to me since it is so unflattering. And even if it is flattering, it is still a bit vulgar. .)

I agree 100% on everything. I don’t wear any of those things you said either. I can’t stand ripped jeans. And any of the other things 🇺🇸 There’s only one thing I do wear a beret and it looks great on me. And I wear in the winter only.

I grew up in a French/dutch family, the women wearing stylish combinations of clothes/jewellry/accessoires. A good hairdresser and a good seamstress, were in high demand! Clothes were adapted to ones body. I do this myself nowadays. A boxy shirt looks much better on me when tailored! I do use lemony yellow accents, I do use fake eye lashes on a night out (the "natural" ones and cut them in half and in shape to align in the middle with my own lash length and on the outside being longer, to create illusion of a cat's eye) I do wear a legging under a longshirt with brogues or ballerina's depending the occassion. My wardrobe is classic french, but with my own

Completely agree with the overarching principle of wearing styles and clothing that fit your character and that you're comfortable with. I have a similar colouring to you, Marie Anne and have also never found a yellow that suits me. Throwing out trends and instead learning what suits you is the key to an amazing wardrobe.
