Are you new to surfing and or are you planning to learn how to surf?

DEVELOP THE FUNDAMENTALS OF SURFING IN 👉 15 minutes | 7 steps To Start Surfing

Don't start learning how to surf until you've seen this tutorial. This will give you something to train, what to look out for in every surf and what board should you start surfing on.

If you’re new to surfing, new to the OMBE social circle, or new to the deep well of knowledge a.k.a. Clayton Nienaber, let us tell you that he’s not really interested in teaching you surfing per se. Rather, he’ll introduce you to concepts like the biomechanics of an athlete’s body, the neuroscience of surfing, and the energy of the wave. He’ll teach you basic life skills like how to walk, how to pass a cup of coffee, and how to jump on a trampoline without thinking about what you are actually accomplishing.

OMBE Beginner surf training program from Head Surf Coach Clayton is designed for beginners to not just teach you the technique and provide drills, but to deeply explain why and allow you to better understand and read the ocean so you can have more fun and catch more waves.

The 7 Steps to Learn How to Surf Corrctly within 15 Minutes:

0:00 Loading the Surfboards
0:22 How OMBE Teaches Surfing Differently
0:39 Step #1: Understand Your Equipment
3:25 Step #2: Find the Right Beach and Wave
4:39 Step #3: Do Plenty of Land Simulations
7:16 Step #4: Get Into the Water
9:20 Step #5: Catching Waves
11:59 Step #6: Stacking your Weight and Relaxing Your Body
12:39 Step #7: (How to) Fall

Wrapping it Up…
In all the steps listed above, you can see two main aspects popping up all over: understanding and awareness. First, you need to understand your equipment, the waves, and your own body by doing enough land simulations.

Then, when you’re in the water, you need to be in positions that won’t restrict your vision, awareness, and risk-aversion capabilities. As long as you nail these two, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t quickly progress as a surfer.

We hope we helped you take a step in the right direction.

Here are 7 simple steps you must follow to start your surfing journey with good technique.

I’m three months into my surfing journey, finally getting the turn on my long board. I turned and surfed the face of the waves a few times on Sunday. It was exhilarating !!!
I sit in the bus on the way to work and watch all your videos. They are a tremendous help.
Thanks for all your content!!!

This video should help a lot of the "noobs". Three other things it would be helpful to include: 1. How to turtle that big foamie to avoid getting tumbled in the whitewater. 2. How to sit on the tail, looking outward to watch the waves and other surfers, and PIVOT the board around quickly to paddle for a wave. I see so many beginners just lying down facing the beach, unable to see or react to the "traffic " around them - SO dangerous! 3. IMHO you should have mentioned the cardinal rule of safety and etiquette- watching which direction the wave is breaking, and NOT paddling in front of anyone who is coming down the line toward you! (AKA dropping in.) Also, paddling out wide of the peak, and if faced with a surfer riding toward you at close range going BEHIND them under the whitewater. (I help noobs with all of the above almost every time I surf.)

A really excellent intro to surfing. I am particularly impressed with the separation of catching waves and popping up. Oh and the kettle bell demonstration.

If you are looking for a tropical beach where you can learn surf safely, try Weligama beach in Sri Lanka. Our place is just opposite the best surf spot, looking forward to seeing you 😁

Interesting! Im very ambidextrous depending on the sport. I was taught with a different pop up and was most comfortable goofy, which worked well for me on slow rolling waves. But I’ve been struggling popping up with the fast steep waves where I live in NorCal. With this pop up, I feel better traditional. So I’m gonna give this a go, then figure out if this way is more reliable for me. Then see if I can stick with it! Thank you!! Any further advice for a chick that feels comfortable in both stances would be appreciated. I don’t want to advance to turns and stuff and realize I need to switch back to goofy (for example).
