Fretboard Unlocked With 3 Shapes

I know that learning the fretboard can seem difficult. But if you just memorize these 3 patterns, you can play anywhere on the fretboard in any Key. This is a simple variation of the CAGED system. However, if you simply use these 3 patterns, you find that the other patterns are simply combinations of these 3. Also, these patterns also let you play in both the major and the minor scales, as well as major and minor pentatonic scales. Almost any solo or lick you could ever play is in one of these 3 patterns. Hope you enjoy!

this is the fourth video of your channel I have had the pleasure to view and learn. I like your no-nonsense blue-collar approach. Very relatable. Keep up the good work Enjoy your country chickin pickin. I'm a big Don Rich/Buck Owens fan. Maybe if you ever get time, you can do a tutorial on how to do Buck's Polka

Great video Davey. Thank you for putting this out and dummy down for me. I’m a senior learner and this helps me break through some of the theory issues I’ve been struggling with in my journey. 😊

This essentially the same concept of the caged system but a damn good lesson for intermediate level guitarists. Next should be learning the Triads as chord shortcuts, especially on the first three or four strings where most lead is

What I gained the most ...?

Moving my A and D shape around, and it becomes another chord.

I've known there are SHAPES of what I find in open chords area, in some other places on the fretboard.

But you helped me clearly understand how they get their names.

So grateful.

About SOLOING, Davey ...
Can I just skip some notes in playing the scale, to create my own Melody as soloing?

I know that's okay for Licks but I often just throw in some Bends and SLIDES and Hammers on, etc to phrase.

Is soloing like selecting notes I want to create my Melody, out from a scale or a combo (major and minor)?

Just need to transit in my understanding and see it clearly that the days I just deliberately skipped playing some notes, I was actually soloing.

Thanks so much Davey.

Cage, triads and the major scale are all interwoven within the same areas of the fretboard. Once you know these, the magic happens. Just let your ear guide you from there.

I don't see where the red dots are the key, don't see a d shaped scale on the D shape.. I do appreciate you show my beginner friends what you said about the A shape going up the neck my Commander Cody smoke that cigarette! I saw the guy do it and blew my mind all it takes is a strat and an amp! Aloha

Great lesson. I'm sorry, but the chart displays don't make sense to me. Can you explain?

I guess my knowledge of CAGED is getting my confused. Your first pattern you call A is actually the G shape. Of course, the A pattern can be seen on the second fret so I guess that is why you call it the A pattern right?

Hey Davey, I like your program. Do you do lessons or do you just have the videos on Patrion?

Davey, I'm new to guitar playing. I don't know what position your major scale pattern is shown in. If you label the High (e) and Low (E) strings, it would be helpful thank you

Thank you so much! As an aging guitarist who basically cannot read music I have had a door opened for me! Do you have downloadable copies of the scale patterns?

help me with a little conflict I have when employing the D shape. I dont know which major pattern to use over it. for instance when I put the D shape on Root E (B string fret 5) should I use the major pattern that has the other root on D string 3rd fret or the pattern that has root on A string fret 7?. is there a preferred pattern? what default or fallback pattern do you use? This would help me sort out all the decisions involved. I want to keep it as simple as possible.
