A really well made and informative video. Steve talks from the heart about these bikes which is the biggest motivator for all of us.

I’ve tried the new Bosch SX, and its a really powerful motor… but you have to spin like on a road or gravel bike. Mtb single trails are a very different context. On the uphill trails we are forced to stop pedaling for the proper timing with obstacles, or because the hairpins are very tight or simply the trail is to steep to spin a 34x52 gear at 90 rpm. In these situations the SX motor drop 80% of its power and at that time you find yourself on almost analogic bike that weight 20 kg… restarting with the SX motor needs 2 or 3 pedals revolution to get back to power delivery. This is unacceptable on tight steep trails. A fantastic motor for Road or Gravel bike where you can spin all day long at over 90 rpm. Not a good MTB motor for rider that is not limited to traditional MTB uphill trails but wants to do some more technical stuff…

I’m a full power, big battery kinda guy. Always have, always will. “And I’m gonna stick to that for now.” 😂

By the time you have added a range extender, proper tyres and maybe some inserts, your knocking at FF weight. Then you need shorter cranks to stop the pedal strikes etc from all that spinning your going to be doing to get the power to come in.
Quick blasts round the woods great, big mountain days and exploring I’ll stick with my FF.
Horses for courses. When we get a 16 kg full power then yep. I’ve had a Kenevo SL, but love my Levo.

I'm on my second second spectral on, no one can convince me that a bike with 1 to 2 kilos lighter but on 55nm is a good choice, climbing tech and the decent is what its all about, and when you are spending big bucks buy a bike you came grow into, your skills will definitely improve. After riding DH for more then 20 years I never thought I would get a kick out of riding tech climbs.

you are right you have to get used to the E bike, I am still getting used to my brakes, I always brake late because I forget all about all the power and weight of the 2022 Giant Reign E+, lots of fun!

Excellent video! The Neuron:OnFly is very nice but the Neuron:On (CF 8 in particular) for me is the best choice. 61 years old, 92 kg, 30 years riding a MTB. I want all the power, full ahead!!
And the price is great, best of the market

I think Steve is considering all of the options available in today’s market. Making videos to support the characteristics of each platform can get tough. Canyon is full speed ahead in every aspect of MTB, so goes to reason they are making every version possible. Do they all sell, basically yes. So again, people not in the know have decisions without real riding fundamentals to know 85nm with a 630Wh battery at 45-50lbs is the total sweet spot. Varying one way or the other is the decision over age and skill set as the caveat to getting the right bike for ya. 💯

I love my Trek Fuel EXe. It just feels like a normal mountain bike, and i love it's agility.

Full power, big battery all the way. Also the SL versions seem to be more ££ - less for more ?
That route looked like an awesome adventure where is this Brecon area ?

isn't Nm is a unit of torque, not power. My ebike motors are measured in Watts.
From Shimano
Shimano EP801 tech specs
• 85 Nm maximum torque
• 250 watts of power
• 2.7 kg

I love Steves content, however, I think he got himself a bit confused in this video, he certainly manged to confuse me. Keep up the great work Steve.

Great review Steve. Totally agree. Have a CUBE stereo hybrid hpc 140 spx 750 and am in love with it. Would love to see a CUBE stereo hybrid reviews in the future....

Thanks

Seems that Steve's form of trail riding on extreme uphill challenges is fairly exclusive. Is that a UK thing?

the EP801 from shimano allows for the best of both worlds. Its ligth and because manufactorers can make their own batteries instead of the super heavy boss batteries some nice things can be done. Wallis offers a 16 kg full power trail mountainbike, same goes for the Orbea rise SL and some others. Personally i love the CX motor on my cube, but i am realy tempted to have a look at full powered shimano SL bikes.

I buyed the Spectral because of all the good tests and reviews but its EP801 just lost the battle in every aspect against my Specialized 2.2. Im riding a Kenevo Pro now and this bike is so much fun even on the street. Feels lighter, even more agile.Maybe this will change with the new Shimano Software upgrade.

Thanks for that precise review, i'm interesting to know what you think about the new rise in 140mm. 16, 5kg, full power, looks fantastic!
