POV: What Kind Of MTB Should I Get?

Easily one of the most difficult decisions someone can make in their entire life: What kind of MTB should I get? The answer involves all sorts of factors. What kind of riding do you primarily do? What kind of bike suits the trails near where you live? How often are you REALLY going to ride the bike park so do you need that 170mm sled? For some people, they want a bike that is fast and nimble for miles of singletrack, while others prefer a big squishy mountain smashing enduro machine for full send mode. But what if you like all the riding and you have all the trails near you? In that case I’m sorry I can’t help you. You’ll need all the bikes, just like Jeff and Liam.

hardtail, fun, fast, reliable, easy to work on, simple and agile.

130mm trail bike, enough travel to throw it around and still ride comfortably enough

I like the 130mm the most. You can ride most of the trails with very good stability. You can do climbs too just look for lockable rear shock.

I like Hardtails, they are fast-rolling and very agile.

for me full suspension is the best and easiest for jumps, manual and every other thing that you need to get your front wheel up for

I would definitely recommend the 130 mm travel trail bike. It'll feel like a dream

Go with an all-mountain with at least 150mm travel in the front and reliable brakes. Make sure it’s upgradable too, for a bash guard with a chain guard or other accessories

I've got a 130mm trail bike( rascal ) It's perfect for 80% of what I ride, and can get away with riding 100%. Still, I occasionally want just a bit more stability, especially on super steep or bike park terrain. Just ordered a 160mm enduro ( transition patrol) to fill that last 20%. It's the biggest slickest bike I have ever ridden, so I am excited to see how it goes. Should be here this week!

Hardtail of course

Get a 27.5" Enduro Hardtail with about 150mm up front. It will do really good on rough terrain but can still handle Dirtjumps. And if you build it up like a slopeduro it's the BEST. Something like that Nukeproof Scout or something

It depends. What kind of trails are you riding and in what part of the country?

Riding mostly XC singletrack in the Chicago metro area? Hardtail or an XC full sus can be a blast.

Riding north shore in BC? Maybe skip right to the enduro bikes.

Enduros are fun because you have so much travel and can do big drops and huge jumps

Depends on if you are new or experienced… If your new don’t buy and full suspension… Hardtails are perfect for beginners and intermediates. Same for the pedals don’t buy a clipless pedal if your learning, (clipless means the ones with clips and flat pedals are the flat ones) buy flat pedals if your new and or learning but don’t creep away from not using the flats…

I have an old XC hardtail, I am retiring it with a trail hardtail in the next weeks (waiting for my bike to arrive). And I am planning on also getting a full suspension right in the borderline between trail and Enduro (150mm to 160 mm in the fork) so for me... 2 bikes: a capable hardtail in downcountry category and a very capable trail full suspension that is almost there with an enduro.

I picked a trail hardtail or downcountry bike because the hardtail part of it allows me to be more efficient while pedaling and climbing, but the slacker geometry and 130mm fork allow for more fun facing down.

And I am picking an all mountain full suspension because it is capable of enduro trails, but it can still be used for light trail rides or to have a spare bike in case someone needs one or the other is out of service for some reason

Just went from a trail bike to a enduro bike. Absolutely amazing switch.

how long have you been riding for and what you will be doing are all factors of what bike you should get and also your skill level and how often you will ride and how much you are willing to spend
