Tesla Model Y Performance 2.0 Review - Still the Best Crossover EV Purchase in 2023?

Hi all and thanks for checking out my second Tesla Model Y Performance review video and channel. As some of you know, I'm a real car guy and have been blessed to review a lot of electric cars over the years. I hope my experience and perspective helps you on your Tesla Model Y or general electric car buying journey.

While the Tesla Model Y Performance edition is not perfect, looking at the big picture, the Tesla Model Y is an unbelievable SUV even though it is about $10-$15k overpriced vs the competition now factoring in FSD. Truly the Model Y is incredible that you can get this kind of performance, technology, and practicality, for at the time it was released around or less than $60k. Today though, this one with FSD was $87k before taxes. Thus, the original owner lost almost $17k within 90 days of ownership, and our dealership picked it up.

For example, you may have to pay to install a NEMO 14-50 outlet in your garage. That was an expense I had not figured into the calculations of my Model X. Also plan on getting less range than the Model Y is rated for. This car is rated at low 300-mile range, and with my driving, I will average probably 10-15% of that. This is why I recommend the long-range version of the Tesla Model Y, which nets closer to 330-340.

In this video, I demonstrate Tesla's Model Y self-driving technology and Tesla Model Y performance. I also show you the Tesla Model Y interior and Tesla Model Y storage options, keycard, and more. The Tesla Model Y is extremely good, it's fast, quiet, and frankly fun to drive. The Tesla Model Y is scary fast, the truly mind-bending speed with a zero to 60 in 3.5 seconds.

The Tesla Model Y is equipped cost around $87k before any tax credits and state taxes and title fees. This Tesla Model Y Performance has a dual motor, red calipers, enhanced full self-driving autopilot, 5-seat configuration, V3-ready supercharger, and more. I cover all of the interior and storage options in this video.

Please post your respectful and intelligent comments and questions. I am all for positive dialogue about the vehicle and will be happy to answer your questions regarding my experiences with the Tesla Model Y in this review.

I must say, after renting a MYP on Turo, this launch video, while great, doesn’t do justice to what the actual visceral feeling you experience when you’re in the car! I’ve driven fast cars, but this is scarily fast! As others have stated, the smile that comes across your face just lasts and lasts! Lol😂And leaving tailgaters in the dust never gets old!

I only had my 2023 MYP for a few days and love it so much. It put smiles on my face every time I get to drive it. Passed down the 2022 M3 to my wife 😂

You can add the shortcuts at the bottom of the screen like steering wheel heater, heated seats etc. I never even swipe up to the Hvac control screen anymore.

We absolutely love ours. We stepped out from a model three and much easier for me to get in and out of. I actually caught the end of year discount on a blue model Y performance. Our last car was the Gray so I was ready for a change. It's starting to grow on me now 🙂

That is the truth. This Model Y Performance won’t lose to much from a red light. Thing is pretty savage with instant 530hp and 500tq to the wheels with AWD.

Why is there an issue with the credit card key? I NEVER use that unless for valet, otherwise just use the phone app....

5 grand more and you get Uber turbine rims with pirelli tires and a 0-60 in 3.1 seconds with a rear spoiler. What more do you want ? You don’t want to add weight that’s not needed.

The voice activated commands are really good in the Tesla...you mention no other way to turn seats off or heating adjustments etc...I've the model 3 (with the older firmware) and I control most actions, (radio, heating, source etc) through this function.

Can't you use your phone as a key so you wouldn't have to use the physical key everytime to drive?

Drop the back ground music would have made the drive review 100 times better

Good review. Love the Y, but IMO.. I think the model 3 performance is more nimble and the best bang for your buck. The cars built in Giga Texas are a much better build. In regards to the door handles, on your app, you can pop it open without touching the door handle. As for the key, you can also use your cell phone, which automatically opens the doors when your close to it. You had those features on your Tesla’s. You can also minimize the regenerative braking. You have to mention Model Y also has track mode. Tesla definitely has the best charging network hands down with now over 50, 000+ in the US. Currently in 2024 the Model Y (same spec) is going for $49, 013 with the $7, 500 federal tax credit. What did you think about the suspension on the performance model? Audi just recalled a ton of cars and were hiding the defects from customers. Porsche did the same thing, the 2020 & 2021 Taycan’s were going on fire while charging (google teslarati Porsche Taycan battery issue).

I am far from being a Tesla fanboy but you just cannot compare the 2023 MYP with other ICE vehicles. Issues like not having enough carbon fiber on the dash, more stitches on the steering wheel, etc. are MINOR if you look at the main selling point of this vehicle: it's an ELECTRIC CAR. The fact that the pricing for this MYP is around $55K (June 2023) is incredible given what it is AND it's still faster than 2024 M3s which is $20K more expensive (base model). Honestly, I can forgive the lack of carbon fiber and steering wheel stitches. But don't get me started on the paint quality which, honestly, could be improved. Cheers!

My 2023 m3 rwd was the best i have driven on a road trip from houston to dallas, no strain or tiredeness, ride is amazing, cars were racing behind me to catch lol....in traffic its so good, but when i drove my lexus rx when i come back, ill have freaking headche when coming back pumping the brakes and looking over the horrible traffic...if you super charge in early morning and late evenings its cheap, mid afternnon expensive, it was 32$ round trip ...houston to dallas .

I like this review, but at the 10:40 mark where he’s talking about having to use the touch screen, is where I find fault. As with 99.9% of Tesla YouTube channels, he either doesn’t know about the myriad of voice controllable features of the car or simply is following what everyone else says. I can’t remember at this moment the name of the channel, but there is ONE, and he’s the ONLY ONE that not only talks about all the car’s features that can be voice controlled, he actually shows you him operating these features, such as, turning on the AC, independently for both the driver and passenger. Turning off the AC, independently for the driver and passenger. Adjusting the AC airflow pattern and force. “No other way of doing this”? Sorry, but you’re wrong! I literally watched the other YouTuber do it by voice control! Turning on and off the steering wheel heat. It was pretty incredible to see. I really wish more channels like this talked about and showed that, as opposed to going the route of simply stating how inconvenient using the touch screen is. It would make for a more accurate review.
