My Video Review | What Was Jesus 'Real' Name | Billy Carson

Billy Carson has made the claim that Jesus is not the proper name for the Messiah. He says the name Jesus comes from Iesus which means "hail Zeus," but this cannot be proven to be the definition. The letter J does not appear in the original language, but then why does the call Jerusalem "Jerusalem"? Jesus is the English translation of Iesus, which is the Greek name for Yeshua in Hebrew. If someone wants to use the Hebrew to the point where they condemn others who use a different language, then everything they read should be in Hebrew. Do you agree or disagree?

Yeshua's name shouldn't be translated in the first place. My name is Frank, but in Spanish it's Francisco. If you are trying to call me by my name, the name that my mother gave me, it's Frank, and that's what I should be called. The fact that the Greeks, moreover the Romans at the Council of Nacaea decided to translate his name rather than keep his Jewish name give one a clue as to how misguided they were in maybe thinking that Romans and Europe would not worship a Jewish son of God or even God. SMH. If you read some of the books that the Council of Nacaea took out of the Bible, burned, or "edited" to help them rule the European kingdoms, and it went on to the rest of the world, by brutal force, then you know. that these "interpretations" were, in essence, a power grab, making the Bible something that would justify their own lusts (for power, and so that kings and popes could live the way they wanted to live). This is why they used evil tactics to spread their religion: burning people at the stake, drowning so called "witches", denigrating women, spreading the religion through war and colonization. We have been lied to and this is one reason why the world is the way it is. Your pastor will never tell you to read the Gnostic texts for yourself, or the Gospel of the Holy Twelve (the unedited Matthew, Mark, Luke and John). Nothing you said was strong to research enough to discount what Billy Carson said dude. Sorry, it wasn't even close. Nobody calls people a different name just because they speak another language. Some chose to call him the name his mother gave him, rather than the Greeks. I think she was a better authority.

Paul, who wrote in Koine Greek, stated in Philippians 2:11 *And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ (Iisous Christos Kyrios) is Lord.*

The Septuagint is the Greek translation of the Old Testament (3rd century BC). It takes liberties in calling God by a different name. It’s *intended audience was Greek speaking Jews (Hellenistic Jews).* Even YHWH was translated to Kyrios for the intended audience.

Few people could speak and even fewer could read in the Hebrew language during the Second Temple period; Koine Greek and Aramaic were the most widely spoken languages at that time among the Jewish community. The Septuagint therefore satisfied a need in the Jewish community.

Romans 12:12-13 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon him. For whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

As I understand it, “Jesus” is a transliteration of “Yeshua”. Translations are faithful to definitions but transliterations attempt to be faithful to sound for sound.

“Jesus' name doesn't end in an a vowel. It ends in an ayin. So I tell them that they have to pronounce the ayin, or he won't hear them, by their standards.

Then they invariably say something to the effect of "God understands that people in different languages can't make the same sounds and so has some grace..." Yep grace comes in when they can't do it.

“Yahshua” (or, as some put it, “Yahusha”) means absolutely nothing in Hebrew because it's a nonsense word made up by a person who actually couldn't read Hebrew or understand how Hebrew pronunciation of sounds works, the same as another nonsense word, Yahuah (also with no meaning for exactly the same reasons).

The nearest, real Hebrew name is יְהֹושֻׁעַ (which is pronounced something more like Yehoshua, from which we get our Joshua). That name means something like “YHWH is salvation” (or, as some others would prefer, “Adonai is salvation” or “Hashem is salvation” or “God is salvation” or “G-D is salvation”).

Later on, a shortened Hebrew form of the name also was used (see 1 Chronicles 24:11), which also came over into common use in Aramaic, and was יֵשׁוּעַ (pronounced something like Yeshua [with the first syllable sounding like yay]). That is the most likely form of the name underlying the Greek Ιησούς, which became Iesus, and later still, Jesus, in English.

Dr. Michael Brown, a pastor and Hebrew scholar, emphatically denies that “Yahshua” was the Hebrew name of Jesus:

The original Hebrew-Aramaic name of Jesus is yeshu‘a, which is short for yehōshu‘a (Joshua), just as Mike is short for Michael... Why then do some people refer to Jesus as Yahshua? There is absolutely no support for this pronunciation-none at all-and I say this as someone holding a Ph.D. in Semitic languages. My educated guess is that some zealous but linguistically ignorant people thought that Yahweh's name must have been a more overt part of our Savior's name, hence YAHshua rather than Yeshua-but again, there is no support of any kind for this theory... The original form of the name Jesus is yeshu‘a, and there is no such name as yahshu‘a (or, yahushua or the like).

So, for the record, once again, THERE IS NO SUCH NAME AS YAHSHUA. It didn’t exist in biblical times and it has not existed as a genuine Hebrew name in history — until people who really didn’t understand Hebrew made it up, thinking that it somehow restored the “Yah” element (from “Yahweh”) into the Savior’s name... there’s no such either as Yahushua — Joshua was pronounced ye-ho-shu-ah”.

No biased here, but I did want to ask. When you say analyze the old text are you talking about the old testament because I thought the old testament was the book translated from hyroglyphs. I think that's where Billy disagrees with the Bible. I think he thinks the old testament doesn't match that of the hyroglyphs.

Thanks for your comment but maybe you should step it up a notch. For example: possibly review what the editors of the Bible have to say.

For all the conspiracy theorists who claim that the name Of Jesus in Greek, Ιεσους is The same as Zeus, just because something sounds slightly the same in English, it doesn't mean it's connected to it in anyway. Zeus in Greek is actually 'Ο Διας' or in English 'The Dias'!! The Linguistic pronunciation of Zeus in Greek is Zeffs(like jeffs), not Zeus! It sounds absolutely nothing like Ιησους(Iesous) & the people who claim it is have absolutely no idea what they are talking about!!

U are wrong and should research your manuscripts before you use translations as a way to debunk and debate facts. I
Just because you don't want to hear the truth and the Truth as it is becomes much more than the "truth" that is fed to the global community and it's sad to see someone who has the opportunity to get Truth out there, but continuing to push for a perfect example that said himself to not pray to any God but his Father. He also said that you and I are his brothers and sisters in and under the strength and comfort of the fellowship of His rule, read ur version of the truth and then ask ur creator for discernment of The Truth

His name in Aramaic/Jewish name is Yehoshua or Yeshua and by first Century Israel, he was most commonly referred to as Yeshu! No one should be arguing that!
But this guy in the video is implying that no one can call His name in a different language or dialect???

Didn't God ordain all languages? Show me from scripture that you can't call His name from a different language.

My actual name is George, in Greek its linguistic pronounced as Yeorgos, Jim is Dimitris, Michael is Mihalis!
I don't have a problem if people call me George or Yeorgos, but you get my point, that if you call me from either, your still calling the same person, yes?

The Greek name Iesous was already in circulation prior to the writing of the New Testament. The earliest copy of the Old Testament in another language was the Greek Septuagint, written by 70 Hebrew scribes in Alexandria and some of these scribes involved were sent by the Jerusalem Sandhedrin to assist in the process, for the Greek speaking Jewish communities!
The name Joshua or Yoshua/Yeshua/Yahoshua/Yeshu in Aramaic or Hebrew, was transliterated into Iesous from back then in 285-247 bc, for the Greek speaking Jewish communities.

The Apostles/Disciples wrote the New Testament in Greek! Every credible New Testament historian scholar and ancient textual critic agrees that the oldest known copies of the New Testament were originally written in Greek. They weren't written hundreds of years after Christ, they written between 50ad and 100ad.
Χριστός(christ/hamashiach) is exactly the way they wrote His name. If they translated His name from Yeshua in HebrewAramaic to Iesous in Greek, and they didn't have a problem with it, then why does anyone else have a problem?

The reason why it was written in Greek was because it was considered the universal language of the time, much like English is today! Also, considering the fact that most of the Christian audience were Gentiles, since the Jews rejected the Gospel. Half of the New Testament was written by the Apostle Paul who had a Gentile audience.

For all the conspiracy theorists who claim that the name Of Jesus in Greek, Ιεσους is The same as Zeus, just because something sounds slightly the same in English, it doesn't mean it's connected to it in anyway. The Linguistic pronunciation of Zeus in Greek is Zeffs(like jeffs), not Zeus! It sounds absolutely nothing like Ιησους(Iesous)!!!

Jesus in English, Yeshua/Yoshua/Yehoshua/Yeshu in Hebrew, Iesous in Greek or Yesus in Spanish, however you wanna pronounce His name in your own language or dialect, He is the one and the same person associated with the New Testament.
The only differences are linguistic pronunciations.

Sorry bro you stop and pick up a book you are incorrect, 2 or 3 thousand years ago nobody was calling the holy city "Jerusalem" In fact it was first called "yebus" until King David Arrived and conquered. The city and The Kingdom of David was born and history happened. The Egyptians and Assyrians called it "Urusalim" the Greeks called it " Hierosoluma" Latin "Ierusalem" Kurdish "Orşelîm" Hebrew "Yerushalayim" I could do this all day but I'm not there are alot of translations from zion Urusalim. None of them start with the letter J. JESUS CHRIST IS NOT HIS NAME. That name was created because his actual was too difficult for people to pronounce. They came up Jesus Christ altered the Holy Scripture into what they saw fit then they published and weaponized it. (The Vatican) and proceeded to commit genocide So next time you want to tell a MIT/Harvard PHD graduate who has dedicated his life to the study of not only theoretical physics but the history of this world and the beliefs and religions upon it only in the efforts to seek the truth Pick up a damn book put the phone down and read a book for 20 minutes you might not make yourself look like an idiot..
