My (Very Honest) Disney Wish Review

Disney Cruise Line has been a very unique cruise line ever since they launched in 1998 and has continued to be my favourite cruise line for years. The Disney Fantasy in particular checks all the boxes for me and when the company announced a new ship, I've been excited to check it out. Today I'm taking a look at the brand new, Disney Wish but approaching it with the context of how much money I've spent for the experience and comparing it to Disney's legacy ships. Join me in this somewhat critical look at Disney's new cruise ship and if it's worth the money.

"Somehow... Ultron returned"

What’s crazy is this ship seems to be a microcosm for Disney as a whole over the past decade: bigger and better on paper, but more commercialized and missing the care and vision that made them so successful before.

They addressed.... the Ant-Man up Thanos' butt theory... at dinner... on a Disney cruise?

WHAT‽

I can't get over the guy who was just showing the donut. I love to think that that's his only job on that entire ship. The moment someone falls off the ship and needs to be thrown a rescue ring, it will be his time to shine.

When the lead designer says "I've never been on a cruise ship but I'm gonna design this one" ITS A CLUE!

too harsh? Not at all since most people that review disney stuff seem to be part of the disney cult its refreshing to see people give honest reviews

Disney released a book about the design of the new Triton-Class ships, and one chapter is titled, "if it ain't broke, fix it anyway." That is the perfect description of where they went wrong with the Wish. They knew some things needed improvement, but instead of making small changes and seeing how they work in reality, they went overboard (pun intended) and rearranged literally everything. It seems almost random what things ended up better and which things became worse. The only intentional improvement the Wish has over its predecessors is that the crew accomodations are much roomier and more thoughtful.

Watching this from Europe, it's so utterly baffling to understand the pricing and target market for these ships. Disney always struck me as a very mainstream brand, obviously premium but still affordable and accessible to everyone. I stayed one night at Euro Disney when I was 12 and it was honestly one of the best memories of my life. However it was not super expensive, more of a premium 4-star place that you save up for and enjoy as a treat. Who are the people paying five figures for 3 nights on a floating man-made Disney branded ship?!! Surely they must be in the top 1% of earners, but I cannot imagine an investment banker or brain surgeon thinking a Disney cruise is the best holiday experience they've always wanted, EVEN if you have kids. Just like the options you listed, if you are willing to pay 2-4K a night, you are literally pushing the highest limits of luxury in the world. You can sit in a jacuzzi over the rooftops of Florence or get picked up by a water taxi to a private island in Venice. Reenact Lost in Translation in Park Hyatt Tokyo or have your personal butler at The Ritz London. Why anyone would spend that living in the smoke stack with hundreds of people staring in at you is...just...O_O

I had no idea I would ever want to watch a review of a cruise ship, but this was so well done I got pulled in. The writing, pacing and execution made this a story. Great job.

I can't believe that MASSIVE, ridiculously expensive room (more like huge apartment) doesn't have a sea view... on a CRUISE. And people on every deck can LOOK IN YOUR EXPENSIVE ROOM. That is simply insane to me.

The elevator buttons genuinely broke me. Feels like the perfect microcosm for Disney both prioritizing tech over experience and not considering how actual human beings will utilize a space.

Brennan's NPC walk into the barrier is excellent. Guy has a legit skill

Aquamouse had so much potential. Imagine if it was almost completely glass and the conveyor belt slowly moved you around to let you take in the ocean around you, almost like a lazy river suspended above the ocean.

Any cruise trips under 7 nights just seems completely pointless to me. Ships are so big, you need more time to be able to properly explore and experience every space. $1700 for a 3-nighter in an inside room is just ludicrous

I think Disney Wish is an example of why you should trust the designers that can design a ship rather than make it a complex maze.

I just spent $2, 300 total for a 31 night Carnival cruise around Japan and across the ocean. No part of me understands why people are willing to pay the mouse tax.

We actually switched from the wish to the fantasy yesterday for our first cruise next year. For the price of 3 days on the wish we were able to get a longer 6 day cruise for about the same on the fantasy. This review just confirms the decision as well

Never thought I’d watch 45 minutes about a cruise ship I’ll never be on. But dang was this a fascinating look into what Disney is producing outside of film. I’m kind of wondering if Disneyland and Disneyworld are following the same generic design cues.

I have no desire to go on any cruise, let alone a Disney cruise, but I still watched this as if my next vacation hinges on your review.

PLEASE DO MORE TRAVEL REVIEWS. This was awesome. Very detailed, very thorough and honest. As an adult with no kids I have sailed the Magic and Wonder. This was very helpful and we will definitely look at the Fantasy.
