This is one of those cases which judge Judy got wrong. I'm a car dealer. How did he buy the car on payment and didn't make any payment for 5 years? The seller is a shady dealer. JJ needs to look at the actual contract which was signed at the time of purchase. Every dealer has those. That would've resolved the case.

The dealer sold him the car for $18k because he knew there was still a balance on the car. He gave him a fake title for the same reason. Feel sorry for the guy, he got scammed! If something is too good to be true, it's not true.

For that amount of money down he should’ve just bought a different car from a dealer

Sooo, let me get this straight. He pays 18k for the car and doesn’t make any payments on the loan for five years. THEN, all of a sudden there’s money owed to the finance company and it gets repossessed? That doesn’t make any sense. Would have loved for JJ to dig deeper and take more time with this one instead of writing him off so quick. She never asked the defendant if payments were made during the five years it was NOT repoed. The numbers don’t add up but neither does the time he owned and had the car without issue

JJ if you didn’t feel like coming to work today. Just say that! 🙄 I mean we’ve all been there! 😂

This is a weird one. She wouldn't even look at his proof. I hope he won in his original court.

She’s usually a fair judge but in this case I believe the guy because the other guy gave him a fake title to the car making him believe it was payed for so the judge should of let him talk. She was very unfair. I like her but wrong is wrong and she’s wrong.

I knew sometime seemed off the minute I heard “he put 18K as a down payment” on a 24k-28k car! Like who would even think to do that.. I believe he put the 18K to buy the car and the guy tried to scam him

A lot of people in this comment section seem to have missed the very end of the video. She did not enter a judgement but dismissed the case without prejudice so that the plaintiff can file for it in his jurisdiction. She obviously didn't want to delve any deeper into this whole case after 5 years, which also explains her initial confusion about the value of the car and the price that the plaintiff paid for it.

If you watched Judge Judy regularly, you would know that she does not care at all for complaints that go back many years.

I disagree with JJ on this one. The buyer of the car should have checked to see if there was a lean on the car, but I really feel that he thought that he was getting a really good deal and then found out later that there was a $6, 000 lean that was still owing that the seller lied about. He didn't get justice in the court room.

I hate when JJ won't look at the evidence.
I mean, come on just look at it. It may just be a bunch of baloney but at least look at it.

I have a feeling there's a lot more that JJ has seen in the papers that we're not seeing here, because she was quick to say she's not touching this with a 10 foot pole.

I love JJ, but this case I’m HIGHLY disappointed. It doesn’t matter what the blue book says. What matters is their agreement. If he had evidence, she should have, AT LEAST, look at it. If he’s telling the truth, the defendant got $18, 000 PLUS his car back AFTER 5 yrs. Shame, shame JJ. Let the evidence SPEAK!!! When people are viewing these cases, the evidence need to be shown HOW you came to your conclusion that he’s lying. 🤔🤔🤔 AND IF the plaintiff still owed him WHY does he not have a counter claim?!!!

Where is the contract, sales receipt, promissory note, IOU, anything? But he did say he had proof that he paid for the car in full so she should have at least looked at it.

i feel like judge judy has probably done enough cases where when she dismisses a case without prejudice there is DEFINITELY much finer & more dirty details that are at large and would rather not have to deal with. Especially considering the huge disparity in amounts for the car. Considering the maximum her jurisdiction can award is $5000, there is probably something fishy going on there.

Judge Judy usually never gets it wrong. This case? Definitely got it wrong.

I’m so saddened for this guy!! Judge Judy needs to look back on this case. That guy scammed him. I don’t believe he told him there was something owed.

Now judge Judy usually does a great job but not on this one…if he indeed has a fake title and text messages she should have a least look at the evidence because it could be a case of fraud…not a good judgment on this one.

Yeah but a seller would definitely sell a car cheaper then the blue book value if the car had issues and he explained he put things on the car. It wouldn’t make sense to put so much money down to buy a car and not pay the rest especially if your credit can be affected. Surly they would both be on opposite sides as he would be suing him for the money owed on what was left! Or he did not tell him so the car would be repossessed confusing to me.

What a ridiculous outcome. First off it says retail in excellent condition is $28k. This is used from another person, you would have to be a lunatic to pay anywhere near that price used from another person as if you are getting it certified from a retail location. Second the idea of him putting $18k down and then accepting that debt makes no sense, especially considering he has evidence of agreement to the contrary. This guy highlights a bluebook value and it supersedes their agreement ? A lot of the recent uploads Judy has completely dropped the ball in.
