I'm a long-time film SLR user (1968-2003) with a Canon FT-QL. My main walk-around lens was the FL 85mm f/1.8. Switched to the Digital Rebels (XT to XTi to T4i), then to the 70D and then 80D. Over time, my cameras got progressively bigger and heavier until I got the R7 this summer - it's actually smaller and lighter than the FT-QL, and the kit lens is about the same size as the FL 85mm. With the RF nifty-fifty - basically the same angle of view on Canon APS-C as the 85mm on the FT - it's even smaller than that rig.

I love the fast "eye auto focus, " and I've have discovered that I can map the controls to feel like my FT-QL: I've set the control ring on my lenses to control the f/stop, the main dial on the top deck for shutter speed, and the ring around the joystick for ISO. The histogram in the viewfinder is a more informative version of the exposure needle in the FT (I run in Manual exposure mode), and the Exposure Simulation/Depth of Field simulation in the viewfinder saves having to press the DOF button.

I've even been able to start taking pictures of birds in flight (seagulls), with the RF 100-400 lens, something I've never even attempted before.

Please try the Sigma 18-35 f1.8 with the R7! :D
I bought it in part for your video recommending it. It works perfectly with my SL3.

I have the R7 and love it but started hearing about not getting the R10. I bought that one too and love it. Very light and I like it better than the Nikon Z30 and the Sony ZV-E10. I love my Nikon Zfc but the R10 is making me pick it up every day. R7 is better and I do not mind one sd card in the R10. The R7 and R10 show when it is overheating which I believe helps the users tremendously. The other cameras when video recording will shut off and stop the recording without warning. Stay Safe and Keep Smiling! Cheers!

You should do the same with fuji, and retest lenses with the 40mp h2. (the x-t5 is also coming this year with the same sensor)

Ordered it as soon as I could and soo happy with the R7. Just do YouTube work and Upgrades from the 90d. Love apsc especially as I do product video and have to get close and do macros. But also for the talking head part the r7 is perfect. Hoping for a nice fast 11mm lens now, let’s see when we are going to get this. Nice vidoe and review Chris, keep up your great work, it really is appreciated. Cheers

It would be great if you could make a video reviewing lenses that you've already done full reviews on in the past on older cameras but updated for the R7. Something like 'best EF mount lenses for R7'. Cheers for all your videos, really appreciate the effort you put into them. 🤘

The 18 150 kit lens is very good actually. I love this camera, i'm using it for sports. Amazing autofocus in video mode also! 4k fine has a lot of rolling shutter in it, i'm using 4k 60 or 4k 60 crop mode, if i want to be closer to the subject and get better quality..

2:55 I have R7 and I've bought it to replace old 7d II. Sorry mate, but old circle dial on 7d II was so more comfortable to use than this new one

Hi Christopher, thanks for the review, its refreshingly positive as on youtube at the moment so many reviewers seem to be all for burning Canon at the stake for their stand on third party glass. What ever Canons reasons be it perceived greed (their own relatively expensive RF glass) or a resistance to IP theft we’ll never know but their bottom line will tell the story one way or the other, for me I can get done what needs doing happily with RF and EF glass. However I sympathise with people finding their third party lens suddenly not working properly, something morally not right there on Canons part . I got the R7 as an affordable back-up body in case my R5 goes tits-up in the middle of an event very happy with it.

My R7 + Tamron 18-400mm - such a fun kit to have around when i just walk around.... Tokina, Tamron, Sigma... EF-s lens have all come back to life... i have 90+ lens to choose from and INCLUDE the drop in ND/POL filter adapter and its the older lenses work even better now on the RF mount... smiling.

You're getting a lot better quality (low noise) that I'm getting. I'm wondering why and wondering if I got a lemon....

I bought the Sigma 30MM f/1.4 Art EF version and adapted it to the R7 and it was sharp enough to get great results! I've taken it to Disneyland twice now and it was a champ!
