This is the all-new MG3!

MG3’s latest hatchback rolls up with a super cheap starting price of just £18,000! The question is, if you’re looking for a budget car as your next set of wheels, should you consider it over other affordable options like the Dacia Duster?

For starters, let’s check out the design. On the outside, the MG3 is relatively smart. There is nothing too outlandish or unique about it, but it looks pretty appealing. There’s a large opening in the lower part of the front end, and along the side there are creases to give it some definition. There’s also a set of smart taillights at the back. It may not be that unique, but it’s certainly not offensive in any way.

However, unlike the exterior, the interior is far more unique. Given the price it’s still fairly well built, with leatherette included across the dash and other cabin areas. There may be some scratchy plastic when you reach a bit lower, but it’s to be expected on a car that is so affordable. There’s an infotainment screen on the centre of the dash and some physical buttons, and the seats are pretty comfortable, too.

When it comes to performance, there’s only one option available. It’s a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine coupled with an electric motor. It’s not a conventional set-up, with the petrol engine largely used to power the motor. However, all you need to know is that it can produce 194hp, and hit 60mph in just 8 seconds.

There are two trim levels to choose from, and the top-of-the-range car costs just £21,000! So is it a must-buy? Stick with Mat and see for yourself!

6.7 second 0-60 mph in a 20k hybrid car. Not bad.

My partner has one of these on a 24 plate and done nearly 6500 miles in it already. MG in bristol had range topping throphy model on offer for £18, 700 at the time. Adverages 60mpg all day long around town. Been a pleasure to own so far and she has absolutely no regrets buying it. Having 7 years warrenty for piece of mind motoring is definitely reassuring.

We would recommedend to anyone to buy one and definitely search around for offers as there are some great ones to be found.

Wont get a better all round car for the money.

500miles on one tank for £45 is definitely achievable.

Well done MG 👏

Literally no one. Not a single soul on earth. Mat Watson: This looks like an AMG C63 and Porsche 911 GT3 😂

Matt: It is a bit unoriginal.
Matt compares a 20, 000 MG Hybrid to a Mercedes, a Mazda, a Porsche 911, and a VW Sirocco.

Scirocco? It looks like someone ate a Mazda 2 and a Mazda 3 and then threw them up.

Ford dropped a real clanger when they didn't throw a quality hybrid lump (like Toyota's) in the Fiesta and Focus.

They threw all their eggs in the EV basket and now they'll struggle.

Matt - "Now that bring me to 5 annoying things about MG 3."
Editor - "Our black Friday sale is here" 😂

I was really aback when you mentioned 8 seconds, considering its size, weight, and 194 horsepower. And when it registered at less than seven, it was not surprised at all.

3:50 "The entertainment screen is very responsive.." then proceeds to press the shortcut buttons whilst the screen does nothing 😂

The 7 year warranty is a little misleading, things like the infotainment system are only covered for the first 3 years, engine, gearbox, suspension etc for 3 years, the only thing that seems to be covered from year 4 onwards is anti-perforation and the high voltage battery is actually covered for 8 years & 100k miles, so I wouldn’t be crowing about a 7 year warranty giving peace of mind for a brand that seems to be unreliable, when not much is actually covered after 3 years

At 194hp, and its size and weight, I was shocked when you said 8 seconds. And not at all shocked, when it clocked in at under 7.

Fun fact: the new MG3 is not even sold in China, since in Chinese market vehicles of this size are basically pure electric ones made by local manufacturers, only 5 non-electric small size b-segment cars are currently for sale in Chinese market: Volkswagen Polo, Mini Cooper, Honda Fit, Toyota GR Yaris and Kia Pegas.

In Thailand, the MG3 Hybrid+ has split-folding seats. However, it's the one assembled in Thailand for the Thai market.
I hope this will be transferred to Euro-spec models in the near future.

What about part replacement and reliability? MG proves to be not so reliable on the long run..

I did a review of one of these recently and I thought it was great value, especially considering its Fiesta ST power but much better on fuel. Really enjoyed it, especially being 3 speed rather than CVT - but I suppose it’s whether it stands the test of time for owners! Glad to see you agree with a lot of my opinions Mat!

You immediately tanked the market of this car the moment you said it came last out of all manufacturers in reliability 😂😂

7:31 Hold on a second. This bothers me with modern cars. They design and make it with a space for the spare tyre. Then they decide to sell it without a spare and use that space for other systems that can't be removed so you can't put a spare in there.
