Unfortunately it’s meaningless for regular social security recipients on fixed income..

This does absolutely NOTHING for those of us that actually need help.

Social Security Trust Fund was discontinued by Democrat LBJ.
Originally Social Security was a Trust Fund. In '66, LBJ transfer the money out of the Trust Fund and put the money in the General Fund.
The Trust Fund in '66 was taking more money than it took in. The excess money was Collecting interest. If LBJ had not stolen money from the Trust fund to pay for Vietnam War, then the Trust fund would have more than enough money.

We are not double dipping. We only want what everyone who pays in 40 quaters gets. In fact I have paid 40 quaters on both sides because became self employed after retirement 25 years as a firefighter. Why should my ss be cut by 3/4? Either give me back all my money with interest or give me what everyone else is entitled.

The many of the people making comments don't know what they are talking about. It's more complicated than they seem to want to understand. They should zip it if they don't understand it. SMH

This means a lot to low income seniors who has had their survival income from a deceased spouse cut by two-thirds.

Are those government employees paying into Social Security? It should be unrelated to a person's retirement, in any case. You pay, you get.

They have their own private retirement and do not pay into Social Security. If they have paid into it they should get it, however if they did not pay into it, they get nothing from it!

But don't government employees get a pension?? Why are they allowed to now double dip?

Public workers who often retire from one job to pickup another public sector job and collect multiple pensions. The Democrats mayor of my town, gets a pension from the town. Then he went on to work a no-show job at the MUA, and collects a pension from there. After that he moved to the improvement authority for another no-show job and now collects all three pensions. And not to mention his real estate wife got the exclusive sales rights to the 55 and over community built in partnership with the town while he was still the mayor. Let’s stop trying to reward these clowns and start investigating the corruption and theft they ALL are involved in.

It’s sad when people don’t understand WEP and GPO, but it’s criminal when members of congress are either negligently ignorant OR blatantly pandering. Allow me to make this simple. WEP applies to people who are allowed to carve out a significant portion of their earnings and shelter those earnings from SS contributions. For example, a chief of police makes $100K but works off duty guarding a parking lot making $20K. She only pays contributions on the $20K, NOT the $100K. This goes on for 35 years and when she is ready to retire her SS is based on the $20K income, NOT the $120K income. This is important because social security determines benefits SOLELY BY THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS!!!! Poorer people get a much larger return on investment than rich people, so it pays this rich chief to look like a poor person rather than the rich person she truly is. This bills is pandering because there is no mention of what they plan to replace WEP with, and if they don’t replace it, then doing nothing results in some people being able to shelter income and others not being able to do and that is not fair. As for GPO, it affects spousal benefits, which are NOT even covered by contributions. They are pure welfare and intended for stay at home spouses who do not work outside the home. They are not intended for a poorly paid teacher who marries a highly paid brain surgeon and would rather have a part of his benefit than her own, especially one that is reduced by WEP, which exists because she was able to shelter the vast majority of her income for most of her career. LASTLY, do not fire back and disagree with me. Everything I said is 100% true. You may not like it, but you must understand it. Otherwise you are as big a part of the problem as these stupid or corrupt congress people.

An arbitrary mandate, a punishing and unreasonable tax on those who gave the most and got little . Pray they pass this. It is a long time in coming. Billions to illegals who gave nothing and two thirds reduction for those of us who worked and paid our social security.

If it’s champion by the GOP, we’re screwed.

Why don't you do something about updating the damn system. Because the cost of living adjustments that ssa go off of are still estimations from 1970 something.

they're not even going off of cost of living for actual real world cost of living.
they're still basing the payouts off of information that was done in the 70s for income based in the 70s.

And I have to sit here and listen to these people crying complain about how people working making 12 to $18 an hour working 30 to 60 hours a week can't make ends meet. And that's fine because that is a huge issue that is ridiculous but what about the people who make 943 a month. And yet did you sit here and say that the people with three times the income coming in a month can't afford groceries can't afford utilities can't afford rent payments can't afford this and that yeah that's truly and honestly sad. But the fact that 943 is expected to pay my rent my utilities groceries Medical Transportation clothing hygiene products etc etc. I mean yeah after I pay rent and utilities I'm broke I don't even have enough to get food. And yet the government also thinks that a measly 118.00 a month in food stamps is sufficient enough to feed me with today's grocery cost. Even when I shop at Dollar Tree Dollar General Family Dollar I still can't get three meals a day for 30 days I get one meal everyday if I'm lucky.

And yeah I can't afford to buy bicycle I can't afford to buy clothing I can't afford to buy shoes I can't afford anything in my life outside of rent and utilities. And yet I got to rely on the handouts of churches and Goodwill and Salvation Army in St Vincent de Paul and stuff like that. I got to get clothes that belong to people 20 years ago and smell like mothballs and I have to wash 70 times just to fade the smell.

Continue to tell me how you're trying to remove all these things for Social Security to make it easier how about allowing people on disability to be able to have a girlfriend without their girlfriends income being deducted out of theirs allow them to be able to get married without their wives income being productive out of theirs. I can't donate plasma I can't do doordash I can't do GrubHub I can't do YouTube I can't do twitch or nothing like that to get additional money yard sales and babysitting nothing. Because it all will be deducted out of my 943 check what they tell me that I'm not supposed to rely on this as my sole source of income but any other money that I get will be deducted out of that income. So basically if I go out and do stuff I'm just replacing the money that I'm going to lose so I'm not making any money I'm still getting the same amount
