I’m in Texas and 95% of municipalities do not collect social security. This stemmed from Regan giving local governments the option to opt out of social security back in the 80’s. Teachers here in Texas also do not have social security taken out.
I worked for 20 years paying into social security from a previous employer and now my last 10-15 years will be at a city government that does not collect social security taxes and now my social security will be significantly reduced. I hardly consider that fair when you have deadbeats that hardly work and collect every government benefit and disability they can and yet they collect social security. I am all for repeal or revision of WEP

Had I known about this, I would have remained employed in the private sector. Instead I took a cut in pay by working a public job, and screwed myself all around! This came into place under Reagan…he also began to tax retirement (social security).

How about doing something for the people that don’t belong to a union sherrod? And quit stealing from the SS trust fund!

Teacher in my state don't pay social security tax. Not sure what these people are talking about. It sounds convoluted.

They get paid well. They shouldn't be messing with SSI or SSA disability checks.. that people earn. If there unable to walk or have blindness

The Social Security formula has three tiers designed to give very low income folks a very high % and the % slides down as income increases because it's insurance against poverty. When you have high non-covered earnings and low FICA earnings, the Soc. Sec. system uses the very high % because it doesn't see the high non-covered earnings, which is not the intent of the Social Security Act. This unintended high % creates a windfall, which is the reason for the Windfall Elimination Provision and the Government Pension Offset.

I dont get it. They didn't pay in, or paid a reduced amount in relative to their total earnings, and they want to get full SS anyway?

I'd like to do that too, thank you.

The Unfairness Act will only contribute to Social Security's Insolvency, And reward those who have not contributed for at least 30years. I contributed for 39years Where's my bonus ?
