Obama's right. I'm black. my parents immigrated here from West Africa. I grew up with a single mom. We grew up poor. I probably would have fallen into those other statistics Obama mentioned at 2:48 but my mom, she saw what was happening in this country. She refused to let her children become part of those statistics. Thanks to my her discipline, today I'm in grad school working on a PhD. Whether it's the mom, dad, or both.. they have to take extra care to guide their children especially if they're black or latino. If the parents don't give a shit whether their kids succeed or not, the children won't care either.
