Wise words for any industry.
“Do it right, or don’t do it at all.”

There could be huge benefits if the truck is charged while unloading. Two for one, these big companies install these chargers in their loading docks and these trucks recharge in the time it takes to move the load and do the paperwork. I see this working for short trips that have a charger on each end that can easily plugin on arrival.

I think the true potential of electric trucking gets unlocked with autonomous driving. Imagine a single truck that can be making deliveries for 20 hours a day. That'll be huge, and that would economically and logically eliminate the need for diesel trucking. Environment factors play a role, but overall it's the profitability and efficiency that drives disruptions at scale.

It'll take 10 years for electric trucks to start forming a foothold in trucking

Been following your channel for sometime now and I must say you've been doing great esp in your narration and delivery which basically begs the question, which institution did you graduate from and are you a team?
I ask these not only satisfy my curiosity but also to appreciate the work you do!
As far am concerned, your narration, research and delivery is impeccable, you deserve more sub and views than most content creators on YouTube!
Keep it up you'll surely get one day!

I think 2024 will be the year for Tesla, the Indonesia project will most probably be in work by the end of 2024 and with the help of the other giga factories, a lot of deliveries will begin in 2024.
Hopefully Tesla will be in India by then🤞🤞

Air Stream has an rv they named the eStream. It has its own batteries and drive motors to move it's own weight. This idea seems ideal for the trailers to go with the Tesla Semi. EV Cargo container trailers would provide even more routing flexibility. The eStream can be maneuvered by a remote independently of the tow vehicle. This capability would add flexibility to handling trailers at terminals.

It's great to see that companies like Walmart, Pepsi, and Frito Lay are on board with the Tesla semi, hopefully other big companies and carriers follow suit. They need to have these megawatt superchargers everywhere for it really to take off.

Its all about the availability of the needed 4680 batteries.

Its important to note that Pepsi is using the Semi to pull potato chips not soda. That makes a huge difference because potato chips will fill a truck without significant weight. Soda or similar products do not fill a truck by volume, the limiting factor in loading a truck is weight. The weight of the Semi dictates how much product you can haul. The heavier the Semi the less product goes on a truck.

Initially, I don't think the semi is going to be used for long-haul trucking as they will need to charge at the home depo all the time. Maybe once mega chargers are available on the road it will be a thing but not, for now, it's still going to cover a lot of use cases, just not every use case!.

You didn't mention that these beasts require a massive amount of batteries! The availability of batteries mean that if they make a lot of these semi's then they have to make a *LOT* fewer of everything else. Remember that Tesla is battery constrained, and the Semi is dependent on that problem being solved.

80% of all Semis go 300 miles or less round trip. So you are talking about 20% of the industry. This is not a big issue, but it does need to get taken care of.
Most companies are working for Gas companies, Wallmart, Pepsi, which are delivering locally.

They need it more now than ever before with the gas prices

So how are the unions going to deal with this? When I worked in heavy construction the Teamsters demanded two employs for each pump that didn't need any. Those employees sat in their pickups and read the paper or slept. The pumps ran 24 hours a day, so the unions collected 6 dues.

I’m relieved to hear the power units for the cyber truck will be made by a German manufacturer. For a couple of years there I was worried they might crank that stuff out in China. This truck is going to be awesome when it’s finally on the road!

Tesla are battery constrained. They have a choice of producing one Semi or several Model Y. Right now (I forget the math) they make more profit selling Model Ys with a fixed quantity of batteries. So, my speculation is that they are doing proof of concept with the drivetrain, battery pack, and especially charging. Once that is sorted out with the battery supply chain, they will build a Mega Factory for Semi.

What about those that are driving doubles/partners. I would like to see them be able to actually drive for 1, 000+ miles plus a trailer made by Tesla that could also have a charge that could be added to or use along with the truck battery.

Surely, by the time the Semi rolls out in numbers, or soon after, Tesla's FSD will have evolved to where driverless operation is practical and safe. In that case, brief delays for charging become hardly relevant. BY 2025, or sooner.

I work in trucking, your right about the range being a non-issue especially if there is a charger on the break, the biggest issue is weight of an empty tractor; the more the tractor weighs, the less weight capacity the truck can carry. That being said, new battery tech should help this and that's probably the main reason for the delay.
