It's so funny that they could have avoided Chainsaw Man being a threat on it's entirety just by letting Denji live his life. Chainsawman's power is also gonna dwindle if Denji just kept doing his whole "Super Hero act" as well.

So ultimately, I think they're not using Chainsaw Man's to hurt/ruin him, but rather I think they're using Chainsaw Man for their own objectives and goals. It all comes back to _Control_ which is quite a fitting narrative, CSM itself has a narrative that has always been trying to control Denji no matter what shape and form it takes.

We knew that Chainsawman could erase concepts, but seeing it in action was just so eery and insane. I literally couldn't believe my eyes when I realised what happened. I think that's a bigger mind-blowing chapter than Power, Aki or Nayuta (?) being killed.

Ear devil being gone could be a big debuff to CSM. If people can't hear the sound of a Chainsaw Revving (which is a major aspect of his fear factor) then there would be less fear associated with it. No scary sound to go with a chainsaw makes a chainsaw seem like a weird spinny sword. Still scary, but less so than a giant screeching blade.

I agree that Public Safety intended for Chainsawman to eat the other devilmen on the roof. But what's specifically interesting about this chapter, is the focus on the ear devil. I do think they were used as bait because lets be real, how does the ear devil help subdue chainsawman. Instead, I propose that the ear devil was placed there to be eaten and erased to combat the Falling devil.

Like you mentioned, Fami has been missing from the last 2 chapters when public safety made themselves known to Denji. Fami has the ability to summon and control this primal fear devil to some extent so Public Safety might want to leverage Denji to fight Fami and possibly other primal fears.

But how can they achieve this? I think by making the primal fear WEAKER. So, how does one become fearful of falling? We know that your sense of balance relies on consistent signals sent to the brain, by first your sense of touch, your sight, and then the organs of the inner ear, you lose balance when one of these systems experience a sudden change, like the act of falling.

The sensation of falling is defined when "the labyrinth or vestibular apparatus, a system of fluid-filled passages in the inner ear, detects changes in acceleration".
Erasing ears, would also remove the primary organs responsible for balance that induce the sensation of falling in humans.

I think this operation was used to lure Denji away from Fami and is a deliberate act by Public Safety to ultimately make people less scared of falling and therefore making the Falling Devil weak. In turn take away the leverage that Fami has so they can either use or eliminate other Primal Fears.

I've been following the idea that Chainsaw man is a devil created by the other devils from their fear of being forgotten. Because if they are forgotten, they cease to exist, and Chainsaw man can make that happen. I also like what you said about him possibly throwing up things he's eaten and returning them to memory. But I swear, if the blood devil or fiend pulls up to fight Chainsaw man after all this I will die of sadness.

The volume 18 cover art is so beautiful! I think when you contrast it with the past covers that Fujimoto has done including the iconic Makima art from vol. 10, you can extract a lot from it symbolically. Also when I realized volume 18 has chapter 155, it really got me sad lol but I think Barem will be the cover art for volume 19.

With the vol. 18 cover, I interpret that Fujimoto was really trying to convey the difference of how Nayuta and Makima were raised. Makima was raised by the state while Nayuta was raised well by Denji in comparison. Of course Nayuta still had some of Control Devil's tendencies and her relationship with Denji had its struggles, but she ultimately saved Denji from the mob attack and she refused to take Fumiko's advice that her family are "pets" after their home burned down with Meowy and the dogs dying. This front cover is so different from the sinister one of Makima in Part 1.
