My personal favourite line in the move, even though it's not very dramatic "This should give them something to think about". Up until this point, the RAF had to face the Luftwaffe attacks peicemeal, because they were spread out attacking airfields, so the RAF squadrons were always at a large numerical disadvantage. This was the first time it had been possible to coordinate multiple squadrons to attack the same raid, so for once, the numbers were more equal. Plus the raid was intercepted on the way into London, those fighters then RTB, re-armed, re-fueled and intercepted them again on the way back. The raid was under almost constant air attack from the moment it crossed the English coast.

Fun fact. The Me 109s in the film were post war models which used British merlin engines.

I think most of this scene is meant to show 12 Group’s Big Wing, Bader’s bloody silly idea (tho as Bader was an adviser on the film, it’s shown as being a game changer instead of an inappropriate tactic when on the defensive).
Think 11 Grp are represented at 1:08, Dogtail squadron told to “keep an eye out for a friendly wing…” Maybe, anyway…?

More clever photographic special effects than I thought. Some distant planes "slide" against the sky at the top and bottom of the screen. This is long, long before CGI made special effects easy.
