The Emperor is a perpetual, so the possibility of reincarnation is definitely one to consider

I imagine that if Rogal Dorn ever comes back he's just gonna roll up to the throne room with a hard hat, a set of overalls, and a toolbox filled with basic tools and then he'll attempt to fix the throne

You can tell when the Throne will be depleted by the sound it will make, because that's when the Emperor will finally flush it.

He can just respawn, but won't because of the endless hordes of daemons he fights daily to protect terra and the imperium

Most primarches will be back, little golden age, then Big E kicks the bucket, then apocalypse, then Big E gets back and the Second Great Crusade starts

So ... the way i remember it, he used the throne before to basically open and use the webway, while he was working there magnus broke through to warn about horus and opened the gates for demons basically. The Emperor was so furious he just threw magnus out and did not recieve the warning. Since then the Emperor was bound to the throne, fighting an invisible war.

When Horus arrived to siege terra, malcador took over the throne for a while so the emperor could save terra from horus.
The emperor was wounded in that fight but still is the only being, able to sit on that throne and keep the doors shut so neither terra, nor the rest of the webway will be overrun by chaos.
He tried to get back to the throne quick before malcador dies but his wound slowed him down.
So that was how malcador died. He served humanity and his friend and emperor.

Its not the throne that keeps him alive, its the throne that slowly kills him and the 1000 souls a day are to replenish his strenght to keep fighting.

At least thats the other theory. :D

If he dies the imperium (what's left of it) will collapse

Isn't the recent lore that the best minds in the imperium were brought in along with some Eldar to try and fix it they failed all were killed and the throne has 100 to 300 years maximum to continue functioning?

Well now we have that final inquisition novel where the broken part of the golden throne turned out to be made of wraith bone and the Adeptus Mechanicus worked a deal with the Drukhari to fix it. The emo elves offered to help to get the emperor’s DNA and make a clone for their own throne copy to stabilize commoragh and stop warp incursions from disjunctions.

We won't know until volume 2 of End and the death but I think he intended to be placed there, when Magnus fell to chaos he needed a plan B for the throne can rightly place a chaos Primarch in the center of the Imperium. After all his worship has made him almost omnipotent. He's become a god, possibly stronger than the chaos gods since he has almost a trillion souls to draw from. He won't be the same man who sat down for the last time though. Could be bad times if he rises
