At first they were saying it was a t-45 trainer and now they arent saying what the plane is lol

I dunno if I would have ejected at that point. But Way too soon to claim pilot error. You can hear the engine increase power after you would expect it to be decreasing power. Have to wait for the investigation report but it could just as easily be the F-35 overriding the pilot’s inputs.

Standard protocol for FJP's to eject if they believe their lives are compromised. The fuel on board is extremely flammable and the smallest spark could be catastrophic. I'm sure the only thing that was damaged other than the jet, was his ego.

Beautiful bird. Still has kinks though...as do all VTOL craft.

Everything about that video was a fail. Being that I have been a crew chief for the F-16C, F-117, then retired on the F-22 in the AF, and then rehired as a civilian at a LH plant. 1. Once he was on the ground he could have just shut the engine down instead of ejecting. (I know this from real experience when we were doing a "taxi test" and the front landing gear failed on us and it also collapsed with engines running.) 2. The ejection was a fail because it didn't get him far enough away from the aircraft if it WERE to explode. 3. Pilots in the Air Force only can physically eject 2 times before the AF pulls their wings and can't fly in a fighter jet every again since the seat compresses their spinal cord with up to 22G's of force. (I've asked "Egress teams" many many times when they came to do routine checks on my jet) So sadly he wasted it on this mishap. I totally understand he was in panic mood, but that's the facts.
