the raw is not for get a better image, is for have more options to make a intense edit. You cant compare this 2 modes of you dont aply a intense colorgrading, push the lights down, change a lot some colors.

The difference in color space, detail and gradation is pretty obvious both in skin tone and primary colors. The PRR wins out. I guessed right on all. But if you shoot night scenes, the internal noise reduction kicks into high gear and you've no control over it. In PRR there's no NR applied, allowing me to control that in post. Watch your tests on a large screen TV or project it and the differences are even more profound.

It seems like bloggers completely don't understand the goal of raw video. They just compare outcomes while the main advantage lays in flexibility on post. Why noone shows how much more one can recover from shadows and highlights? How much one can push colors, and which codec has better ISO management. I see dozens of comparisons but they just show raw converted to Rec 709 without any adjustments. Put 2 codecs side by side, push both with adjustments and show the results. This is how it should be. It is like a conspiracy not to show real difference. Anyone, tell please to bloggers that the difference lays in editing, not in converting to 709 and posting on YT

RAW footage refers to unprocessed data straight from the camera’s sensor, providing greater flexibility in post-production compared to internal codecs. Essentially, you're capturing the full breadth of the image data, allowing you to adjust elements like white balance, exposure, and color grading in ways that aren't possible with compressed formats. This is particularly advantageous for those who prioritize precision in their post-processing workflow.

For instance, with ProRes RAW, the footage retains much of the original sensor data, which can be vital when shooting in fast-paced environments where there's no time to perfectly adjust settings like white balance or exposure on the fly. The flexibility in post is where RAW shines, as it allows for significant corrections and enhancements that internal codecs, which are often compressed and processed in-camera, simply can’t offer.

While applying LUTs might not reveal the full potential of RAW, those with a more refined post-production process will appreciate the vast differences in image quality and malleability. Choosing ProRes RAW over internal codecs in a camera like the A7S3 ensures that you maximize the dynamic range and maintain the highest possible image fidelity, which is crucial for those seeking the highest level of control over their footage.

from my conversation with Atmos sales, if you record prores you will get higher resolution due to the 4K DCI capability of the recorder. you wont get the 4K DCI aspect but you will get super sampling of the pixels in your 4K UHD footage.

ProRes raw you are also getting 12bit color so a lot more colors to work with that's why it looked like that. I guest it off the jump when I saw the color details.

If you are using the Atomos Ninja V to record, notice, it records the HDMI data as it is, and the video data comes in full range, while any internal recording, even tho it is in full range, it contains its metadata stating that it is in full range, thus, apps like Premiere and Resolve understand and treat the footage accordingly, this doesn't happen with ProRes recorded externally.

I love your extremely blunt comments over certain things😂….subbed!

On my FX30 I notice some color differences when I shoot raw over internal. It’s not a huge difference, it’s just the color science like you said. With RAW you’re quite literally just capturing the sensor, and the Ninja V is just recording what it sees. That’s it. It by passes the majority of the encoding and processing the camera is doing, which the end product is that “Sony look”. Well, if the camera really isn’t doing much on the recording side, then your image won’t be the same. It’s not better or worse, it’s just different. And on the fx30 having that 12 bit color latitude - it’s just like you said - who cares about color science if you can manipulate it in post anyway?

Progress raw, it’s not only more data, there is more possibilities for edit, is not for better picture quality, but you can achieve more with progress raw in edit Example, If you mess up white balance on progress raw is easier to get right colours.
No one says files from fx3 or a7siii are trash 🤣🤣🤣
I think you lost concept what for progress raw are.

Good day buddy

Great video, I just sold my ninja v to go back to internal recording, and this video gave me the reassurance I needed thanks 💯

Prores from the atomos has a different gamma curve than the internal camera codecs. I had to create a powergrade in DaVinci Resolve to adjust this.

Hi, nice video! Which PP did you use when you filmed your review and which settings in PP you have used as Blacl Level, Gamma, Knee .... ? @ 0:05 Can you please share your LUT you used to color grading review? Thanks in advance!! /Dennis

The point of shooting in RAW on the a7Siii/FX3 is to by pass Sony’s horrendous in camera Noise Reduction + Sharpening

You’re really missing out, RAW is so much better. The internal codecs are too sharp and look more video-ish.

I have a Pocket 4k and ProRes RAW is a better RAW than BRAW because BRAW process the image slightly whereas ProRes RAW doesn’t.

Internal codecs are great to quick turn around though.

Your color grade was better on the third clap, your final grade has a green hue

Raw files are much better for PCs and you have more info to edit even if you have a great exposures.

Do you apply lens correction on ProRes Raw?
