Sometimes the base model is often overlooked for prettier and better equipped mid-range options. But, Volkswagen's base Tiguan might just be one of the best base model offerings, with a surprising amount of tech and equipment for an entry-level model.

The interior of the Tiguan is very versatile. Just out off interest, the rear seats can also slide forward. One seat (drivers side) and two seats (passenger side) can individually slide forward, to make the boot size even bigger.
And a party trick is that with it having "Comfort front seats" (manually operated) the front passenger backrest can be retracted fully forward to make it horizontal. Thereby, a very long item can go all the way from the back of the boot up to the glove-box. Also, there are storage drawers under the front seats. It was surprising to find these things out as I was checking out a 110TSI last week. The power seats option as part of the "Luxury Package" does not provide the party trick.

In canada the basic tiguan don't come with wireless key, big screen device and split zone air conditioning

Thanks for the review. It is a great looking SUV. It is a pity that the servicing costs are high. Last week I had a look at one, a MY23 model advertised by VW as $43, 990 drive-away, which is much better than the $47, 212 cost as show in your review (and now showing on the VW site as Driveaway (MRDP) $ 49, 418 for MY24 model).

Just drove a base line Tiguan in US and man it’s so cheap looking compared to my R line Tiguan. The infotainment screen on the base line US reminds me of something from Alibaba

Just out off interest, whilst the non sunroof Tiguan provides two overhead storage containers that can hold a number of sunglasses, intriguingly a sunroof Tiguan has nothing, not a single overhead sunglasses container.
