" I'm not living, I'm just killing time " Damn, if that line doesn't just pound on your soul.

I once came across a comment about both versions having two completely different meanings, the acoustic version is about the optism of a relationship and not wanting to lose that love while this version is about when you finally lose it and it’s nothing but a distant memory

If A Moon Shaped Pool is the last Radiohead album we'll ever experience, i'd say this song is the perfect swan song for arguably the greatest band of all time.

Both versions are pure gold, the live one i think has a bit of hope for that love which hasn’t ended, in this one everything is lost

"Just don't leave. Don't leave".

There are many words and many languages that convey the idea of love. To express that you feel something profound -perhaps inexplicable- towards another human being. But in my not so short 30 years, I've never come across such a raw emotion as Thom did it here: "don't leave". Have you ever felt something so profound and pure with someone...that the only emotion you can put into words is "don't leave"?

(...and then that person died. That fact makes this song 1000x harder to listen to. Poor Thom)

And no matter how far you are, or how much time passes, you'll always have a seat in my heart, waiting, just for you.

90's version: NIN's hurt
Moon Shaped Pool version: Johnny Cash's hurt

Thom’s plaintive plea to his lost partner is evocative and ethereal as it is soul shattering and real. Breaks my heart then the pieces just float away. My god.

I know a lot of songs that are sad enough to make me want to cry, but this is the only song that's sad enough to make me want to scream out of pain.

I still listen to this song, and it still makes me feel the same way. I've finally accepted that she's gone, which this song is really about I think. But while I've accepted that she's gone, that everything is over with, I still feel the pain every day. Even after everything that's happened. All the horrible experiences I had. All the horrible things that I did and regret. All the shame that I bear. This song still resonates, because true love waits. I'll always lover her, because it's true love. I can let her go, but I can't let the love go. Never. It'll always exist, even though I wish more than anything that too would fade away.

I've finally let her go, but I will always love her.

imagine being in love and writing a love song, only releasing it after she, your former wife and the mother of your children, left this world.
I can't imagine a more heartbreaking background to a song.

God you can rly feel the pain in his voice. I listened to this for the first time a few weeks ago and it just left me stunned.

Many Radiohead songs are "sad", "depressing", "melancholy", etc. etc.... but this song is probably their saddest. It sounds utterly defeated, empty. There's an indescribable sadness surrounding this song...

I was just singing along to this tune, and man!when it got to when he says “don’t leave” I just cried. I cried singing the rest of the song along with him. This song and Daydreamers are like nothing I’ve ever heard before.

this is one of if not the most depressing songs I know.

If this is their last track, then it sure is a soul-crushing farewell to a fantastic band.

The reason why I truly believe this is not only the saddest song in Radiohead’s discography, but one of the saddest songs ever made, is because this song represents Thom and the band at their most sincere and deeply emotional state as artists. While every other song can combine emotions or memories and give listeners an idea of how they interpret the song to their music taste and personal lives, True Love Waits (both the 90s and AMSP versions) immediately cuts deep into your most depressive and regretful memories and feelings having to deal with love, heartbreak, trauma, or even grief.

In my opinion, True Love Waits is what defines Radiohead as the best band in the history of music.

A perfect swan song for Radiohead, hopefully it doesn't stay that way.

My 15 yr old daughter started learning this track on piano... I was listening to her during lessons today and I broke down crying in the other room. As a dyed in the wool RH fan, and father, that is about as much as you can wish for ❤
