I want to point out something about the iron. The “stains” aren’t from clothing, the iron originally had Teflon coating the hot surface. The ball of foil removed the remnants of Teflon in the center of the heating surface. BUT, this advice is not altogether wrong, as it can help revive dull metal, so if your iron is not coated with a nonstick coating, you can do this too from time to time to brighten up, and of course if some plastic sticks to it from sealing a plastic bag, the ball of foil will remove it very effectively, that’s why I wanted to clarify for Jennifer.
Also, the ironing clothing too really helps iron more effectively and quickly, you can even place the foil under the ironing board pad, or under a sheet for example to keep that piece of foil in good shape for a lot of uses. There is no “good” or “bad” side of foil, the reason one side is shiny and the other is dull, is from the process of pressing the aluminum block flat that eventually turns into a thin metal that’s easy to roll and tear off. So there won’t be any fear of clothing sticking to either side. I saw a video here on YouTube about how foil is made and it was so educational.
Did you know you can scrub rust off of a chrome car bumper with the foil like she showed with the iron? Always test a small inconspicuous area first, because sometimes it’s not really chrome, and I would feel sad if you damaged the metal bumper.
Also, if you have problems with static cling, even when using dryer sheets in your clothes dryer, throw a couple of foil balls in with the clothing, it really helps with that static!
Oh and the segment about wrapping a body part for relieving pain can really help. If you have joint pain, sometimes it only takes a little warmth reflected back from our own body to ease the stiffness. Best wishes, and greetings from Dallas TX, USA! ❤

Sealing a plastic bag was the best to me. I have used heavy duty aluminum to make perfect turned under folded edges on applique round pieces. I first cut out several card stock round templates the size I want the applique to be (these can be used over and over again). Then I lay a piece of heavy aluminum foil shinny side up on the pressing mat (the foil can also be used again). On top of the foil I place the fabric piece (that I want to turn the edges under on) top side down on the foil. On top of the wrong side of the fabric, I center the card stock circle. Then I use the aluminum foil to bring the edges of the fabric up and over the card stock circle all the way around. The heavy aluminum foil will hold the fabric in place while I press a hot iron over the whole thing. While that one cools down I put another together and press it. I keep doing this until I have all the fabric circles made and ready to applique. This keeps me from burning my fingers while making fabric circles to machine sew on to a fabric project.

I have one. You can also sharpen scissors with foil. Just cut some foil a few times or until your scissors feel sharp. Test cut your scissors on a piece of paper. I do this all the time and it works like a charm. I from the US

I am from Michigan in the United States. I use aluminum foil under the ironing board pad and it helps to generate the heat for faster ironing and it stays under the pad all the time.

I have a tip! Scrunch up a ball of tinfoil, the size of a small naval orange and toss it in your dryer, it reduces the static cling! Let me know if it works for you. My favorite tip here in the video I cannot wait to try is resealing the bags with the iron. Thank you for all the tips!

I have painful arthritis and will try the aluminum foil wrap on the affected area. Thank you for your interesting ideas.

BTW: Here's another tip. If you have a toilet making bad bvrown iron stains, try adding a balled up piece of aluminum foil in the tank. Be sure not to block any moving parts. The aluminum oxidizes at a much faster rate, and will reduce or eliminate the iron stains.

Cheers from the US.

Thanks for this very helpful tip. I sprained my hand & tried this. It was relieved the pain when I wrapped the foil around my wrist & kept it on with a hair scrunchy! Lanny from The causeway Coast in Norther Ireland.
