I love this song, but I think it’s sad that so many young people don’t even realize who they are seeing in the images shown… John Kennedy, Martin Luther King, the crew of the Challenger, Keith Whitley, and many more. Such important, powerful, and talented people who left a lasting impression on our lives.

In this song, Garth makes a statement that it is best not to know how things will end, because if you do then you may deprive yourself of certain experiences: You might miss the pain, but you also might miss the dance. The dance = moments in life.

According to Garth, the song is about people who weren't afraid to face or welcome death in order to live the lives they believed they needed to live no matter the consequences.

John Wayne, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Lane Frost, Keith Whitley, The Challenger Crew, JFK. All taken from us before their time. A fitting song for that.
John Wayne: cancer
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: assassination
Lane Frost: freak rodeo accident
Keith Whitley: severe alcohol poisoning
Challenger Crew: extreme vehicle malfunction
President John Fitzgerald Kennedy: assassination
Gone before their time, but not forgotten

Don't know how you're sneaking these Garth videos past the YouTube censors, but keep it up! Do The Thunder Rolls!

My first husband died when our daughter was 3, my daughter is My Dance, I could have missed the pain of loosing my husband so young, but I'd have missed the dance of our daughter. I saw Garth in concert and held up my sign that said My daughter is My Dance, while he sang The Dance, he pointed at me, put his hands up in the air like he was holding a sign, and touched his heart, one of my favorite memories.

He always finds ways to to get at the core of what makes us all human. This song also makes me cry nearly every time.

When the Challenger crew walked out, that gave me chills.

I think that the point of the song is that you can protect yourself from pain but you would miss out on life.

Man...it doesn't matter what genre of music you like and enjoy.... Garth Brooks will always be iconic! The music he has written, the emotions he invokes.... He's Legend.
He's also the best performer I've ever seen live. Puts on an amazing show!

Lane Frost - World Champion Bull rider, who was killed in 1989 by the bull he rode for a full eight seconds during a rodeo.
Keith Whitley - Country singer who died in 1989 from alcohol poisoning. The Whitley scenes featured his then-wife Lorrie Morgan.
Martin Luther King Jr. - Baptist minister who is best known for his involvement in the Civil Rights Movement and was assassinated in 1968.
The crew of the Space Shuttle Challenger, shortly before it disintegrated after its launch in 1986.
John F. Kennedy - President of the United States who was assassinated in 1963.
John Wayne - Film actor best known for his roles in Westerns and died of cancer in 1979. these are the people this song was dedicated to Billy.

I don’t think you realize how much I needed to hear this song today. Currently my mom is dying from cancer. It’s in her lungs, liver, & brain and is currently spreading down he spinal cord. We are keeping her comfortable at home where she wants to be, surrounded with the ones that she loves.

#Bingers "8 Seconds" It's about Lane Frost, the bull rider shown in the video.

Kelly Clarkson singing it at Kennedy Center Honors would give you chills. She actually made Garth cry.

This is one of the most beautiful songs ever. To me, it's a reminder that God only lends us the people in our lives. Enjoy your time with them without regret because one day God will take them back home.
