I worked for the company for 26 years and made many lifelong friends. My wife and I were volunteering at a shelter on Thanksgiving and I was speaking with their kitchen manager. When he found out who I worked he brought me a very old 1/2 inch drive ratchet from his car. He explained it had belonged to his grandfather and wanted to know if I could fix it. I explained that I did not work for the hand tool side of the business but I would see what I could do. I sent the ratchet to a friend in Kenosha. Upon receipt he called me, explained how old the ratchet was and that no parts were available. He asked to waited a couple to see what he could do. Three days later the ratchet arrived at my home working like new. I called him and told me they had broached the inside of the tool to accept and new style repair kit. When I gave it back to the owner I thought he was going to cry. Please never doubt how much what most at the company will do to help someone. Thanks Val!

You sooo get it. Tools, old tools for a man is a relationship so sublime. The tools become a part of him, like an old familiar friend. The tool becomes an extension of himself, making him able to carve, sculpt and shape materials into a tangible object which only existed in his mind. I am 71 years old. I have been using my hands and tools for carpentry since I was 16 years old. Your story has touched my heart.

It should be an honor for every company or craftsperson to have someone owning and using a product for almost 70 years. Yes you should warranty it.

Another old guy here...thank you for helping this man, and the respect you showed for both him and the product. You're a class act all around.

I am an old mechanic. I like you for giving hope to the world.

Agreed. Good customer service will be rewarded. We kicked our snap- on guy out because he always had an attitude when replacing tools. We have about 400 mechanics in our aircraft shop.

RKRA930A is the repair kit for this ratchet.

Just took the same one to my rep this week and he hooked me up no question.

"I made his tiny tool work again, he also said something about a ratchet" 😂

I can still remember when you could find a rusty old beat up, bent and broken Craftsman tool on the side of the road, walk into Sears and they would hand you a brand new one, no questions asked.

Would rather have it rebuilt, that tool has good juju.

I'm glad you're trying to fix the ratchet before replacing it

Let's keep it real. Veteran techs buy from the tool guy that treats em right, not for their brand. Warranty is everything at those prices. Take care of em and they take care of you, a universal truth in this life.

Many years ago when I worked for Sears one of my jobs was rebuilding trade in ratchets. When a customer brought in a ratchet we would give them a rebuilt one unless we didn’t have any and then the policy was to give them a new ratchet. I had a guy come in wanting to trade in a 1/4 and a 1/2 because of skipping teeth. These things had to be 40+ years old and that was in the late 90’s. He got two new ratchets because sears didn’t have those two models anymore. The policy was for the old “out of date” ratchets to be thrown away. I kept them and with some parts mixing and matching I was able to get them working like new. They are in my tool box and get put to work when one of my new ratchets strips teeth and I don’t have time to run to the nearest True Value or Lowes to trade it in. Keep that old stuff working, you never know when it might be needed.

Thank you for your understanding, that that tool carries memories of a lifetime of passion. Most people don't understand the old mechanics used to have a passion for what they did. Todays " technitions " are mostly just doing a job without a concern for anything except a paycheck. Sad that they are missing the passion.

This is the kind of woman every man needs. What a thoughtful thing to do for that guy but even more so the care for the quality of the tool itself and for her to keep it going

My dad gave me his 45 year old snap on ratchet, and when it started skipping the snap on guy replaced the internals and I still use it today!
