iPhone X Face ID setup not working, not recognizing face at all

i am having this problem now. i havent been able to login to my phone with face ID since 12.1.4. ive been logging in with passcode instead. turned face ID off and then back on and now i cant set it up. having this exact issue

Went to apple today. They recognized that it's a hardware failure after running some tests and swapped it out on the spot. Anyone having this issue I suggest doing the same.

Yea mine stopped working last night. “Face is unavailable” True depth camera unresponsive. I’m glad it’s still under warranty. Apple store appt Wednesday.

Ok I saw someone named Emma H comment this and it worked!

1. Open settings
2. Go to Face ID and Passcode
3. Click unlock iPhone then when the black screen pops up to start the Face ID set up shut down the IPhone
4. Turn back on
5. Go back to settings and go into Face ID and passcode
6. Click unlock iPhone and it should let you set up and it will work again!

Again, I saw someone named Emma H comment this. Her comment was actually a reply to another comment, so I thought people maybe wouldn’t see it. All credit goes to her for this. This worked for me!

It keeps on doing that! I’m tired of having to constantly Putin my password when my phone was made for the Face ID!

I have the same issue but with iOS 13.5

Had the same problem few days back. I restarted my phone and then set up Face ID again. It worked

I'm having the same issue. Yes, I can Register my face ID but cant unlock the device. IOS 13.1 here :( sad IOS

Hi! I was having this problem for months and kind of just accepted that it would never work again- and I was okay with that but then my warranty was expiring in a few days so I decided to get it fixed once and for all. They said it was the hardware and they just replaced my phone- free of charge because it was still in the warranty. If your phone is still in warranty GO TO THE STORE! I didn’t realise how much I missed Face ID until I’d got it back. If it’s not in warranty, try your luck but maybe be prepared to either make do or pay for a new phone (obviously I didn’t have to go through this because of the warranty, so I’m not sure on the protocol for if it’s not covered) One tip before you go to the store though (for any Apple appointment) - BACK UP EVERYTHING ON THE PHONE! My screen started flashing weird green and white lights a couple of months ago and to fix it they had to wipe everything, so I lost a couple of months worth of pictures and stuff. Don’t be me- back up everything! Hope that helps!

This might help: Check if the ambient light sensor is working by placing your hand over the sensors section (up screen center). If not, disable the auto brightness. It's a bit hidden, but here's what you need to do: Open Settings > General > Accessibility > Display Accommodations and slide the switch next to Auto-Brightness to the Off position. Then restart your phone. Then try to setup your face recognition. You might need to do this 2 or 3 times. Worked for me.

Mine has been broken ever since I got my screen replaced. At this point I’m just gonna leave it broken because I can’t afford to spend more money

I came to the comment section and did a suggestion and it WORKED! Shut down your phone and clean the camera. Turn it back on and setup face I.D.
