Crochet can also create a fabric that looks like it's knitted, it's called Tunisian crochet

The biggest negative I can think of when knitting is, if you drop a stitch it can run the entire length of the fabric. Whereas in crochet if you drop a stitch, you pick it back up and go. I didn't know knitting is lighter so thank you for that tip, but I knew there's not many crochet patterns for garments. I don't wear sweaters of any kind so this was news to me.

Crochet is faster, thicker, and uses more yarn.
I learned to knit first but I grew to love crochet because it challenge me more and was more difficult to me to learn, giving me more satisfaction to do projects :)
Thanks for this video
I'm a self taught crocheter and I would love to see more videos!

I learned to crochet first when I was a kid. I learned how to knit as an adult. I would like to re-learn to crochet as I love the detail you can get. Great video.

Fun comparison! I *can* knit but I much prefer crochet. It makes more sense to me for some reason.

I love crocheting! I wish I could learn to knit; sadly I have a physical disability that makes that impossible (believe me, I've tried learning before and I just wasn't able to manipulate the needles and yarn like I needed to). I learned about the tunisian stitch recently and fell in love with it. There's just something about working an entire row at once that's really satisfying; plus I only have to double-check the stitch count once per row! :) Thanks for the vid!

Thank you for doing this I have to admit it completely reminds me of my mother she taught all four of us boys how to knit and crochet and she taught knitting and crochet classes at our 4-H chapter and she taught sewing! Kindred Spirits you two are thank you so much and I'm going to look forward to relearning because I haven't knitted or crocheted anything in over 40 years!

I learned to knit as a child, crochet as an adult. I struggle with crochet and find it more difficult than knitting but probably 30 years of experience makes the difference between the two

When I was little I always wanted to knit (idk why?) But I love the method of it and all until I discovered crocheting and fell in love with it as well, now that I'm a college student who's stressed out I just ordered a crocheting hook and found my yarn and knitting needles in my closet so now I'm glad to rejoin my love for this 😚

I am an advanced knitter and also like to crochet. I find baby toys are much better crocheted. Also have done white roses for a wedding flower arrangement in crochet. I enjoy both but  perhaps prefer knitting since I do more of that than crocheting. But when I get tired of knitting I find it very enjoyable to crochet. Made a mermaid afghan for 2 of my grand children in crochet and that was a lot of fun. I guess I should mention that I teach knitting/crocheting weekly at our local library.

I have a general learning disability and adhd, so that made it difficult for me to learn either of these, but I would love to learn, and I love to use my hands. I'm thinking YouTube might work as I can slow the speed and pause if need be, but to listen I usually speed it wwy up haha!

4:57 I’m on a very tight budget (6x6 foot blanket) and needed to know which skill use more or less yarn per square inch when using the same yarn. I think you’ve answered my question, I got the impression that knitting could be less. Thank you.

I started knitting first, knitted a simple scarf when I was in primary school but I didn’t continue on with the hobby..then I discovered crochet and for some reason, I prefer it. I’ve whipped up coasters, easy tops, hat and even crocheted a cardigan which was my first big project. I feel like crochet is easier to pick up.. maybe someday I’ll try to pick up knitting again :)

This was very informative, thank you! Other comparisons talk about the creation process but don’t really compare the results of the labor, so this was extra helpful!

You're almost right! There are many many different kinds of knitting stitches as well, we use them in lace or to create other textures.

I have so much respect for knitters. My Mum, Grandma and Nannie are/were knitters but I failed to learn so many times I decided to teach myself to crochet and fell in love! I do slightly disagree with something you mentioned about the crafts being best suited to particular projects. It's still the case for many things but crochet designers are incredibly innovative and creating beautifully delicate garments with lots of drape so I think this is becoming less of a factor 😃

I prefer knitting because I was never good at crocheting.

Here are some tips if you have something made out of yarn and want to know if it's knit or crochet: Knitting is mainly made up of little "v" shapes. Some stitch patterns also include "bumps" (formed when you combine knit and purl stitches). Crochet stitches often look like little towers or bundles of yarn. Knitted pieces, even lace, tend to look more solid bcs, as the video said, all the stitches are worked in rows. Crochet can be a lot more free-form since you only work one stitch at a time, so if there are areas with branch-offs, rope-like elements (chains), or more complex lace patterns, it is probably crochet. Bump-and-v versus bundles/towers will usually tell you immediately, though.
