How To Do Two Hand Tapping In 3 Easy Steps. In This Video I show you exactly what you need to know in 3 stupidly easy steps to do two hand tapping.
Two hand tapping all comes down to being able to perform the pull off, the hammer on, and the tap. The pull off is where you play a note and then pull off of that note on the fretboard to make the note behind it play. The hammer on is the complete opposite of the pull off. The hammer on is where you play a note and then hammer on with your finger to a fret above that note in order for the above note to sound.
When you combine these two techniques together, you create what is called as a trill. It is a really cool ROCK sound! Heard famously from the movie Wayne's World. "Party on Wayne! Party on Garth! Shwing!" Sorry, I forgot how awesome that movie was until now. OK, back on how to do two hand tapping.
Anyway, the last part of the equation is the tap. To tap we simply use our right hand (picking hand) and with either the index or middle finger tap on the neck in order to play a sound off of it. The tricky part is being able to effectively pull that finger off of the fret in order to clearly make the notes behind the fret sound. So you may have to exaggerate the motion until you can effectively do it. Just practice at it and try to make it a micro motion.
We combine all 3 of these techniques together in order to do two hand tapping. They may seem hard at first, but give each element some time to sink in with you and you'll become a master in no time!
I spent my first summer of guitar obsessed with learning how to do two hand tapping because at my very core I wanted to be just as cool as Eddie Van Halen! If you are a beginner, this is an awesome technique, and if you really want to impress people, bust out your two hand chops!
