Must Haves for any Guitar Player:

Two handed tapping was popularized initially by Eddie Van Halen, who caught on, and was used by a lot of different guitar players, including yours truly. I try not to use it too much, because it has become somewhat of a cliché, but you can do some really cool stuff with it.

I want to start by looking at a lick loosely based on a piece by a former teacher of mine, Joe Satriani. And this type of lick involves playing a power chord. Right? So it's all tapped. So with my left hand, I'm tapping the bottom two notes. I'm doing the same thing, but just reversed, an octave higher. So everything is tapped.

The lick from Eddie Van Halen's, "Eruption," which is basically taking a triad and hammering on all the notes, and then pulling off with the right hand.

So once you're doing that, you have a lot of possibilities. You can shift your whole hand to the left. See what happens.

I can lower the bottom note.

And now I can lower the top. You know you can do any sort of pattern with it.

So I'm going to play what I just played, with full volume.

I can do one hand tap, left or right as long as they're separate, but when I do both I'm having trouble with coordination. Anything I could do for that?

Good tutorial. Question: was this recorded in the back room of a Guitar Center? When he's just talking and not playing, if you listen carefully you can hear what sounds like several people noodling on guitars. lol.

My problem with tapping is that it's always insanely quite on my guitar/amp setup. Using a mustang v 1 amp

Let's get the facts straight. As far as I know, Steve Hackett (Genesis) was one of the first, if not the first, to use two-hand tapping. Van Halen picked it up from him. Check it out.

Steve Hackett was doing this when their mothers were wiping their noses. Frankly I think this is just as Baz Alton of Brass Alley would have aptly called "Party Tricks".  I hate these formula / scale shapes guitarist, you don't see the top top guitarists like Clapton / Knopfler, Hackett (the true tapping master) and going back to Hendrix using tapping as their main thing doing these "tricks", they rely on the quality of the notes they are playing. Knopfler's guitar work is beautiful, this heavy metal tapping stuff well a machine can do it.
