"The dark side isn't stronger, just easier."

Kind of illuminating to hear Yoda clarify the simple fact so many jedi had ignored. Philosophically applicable to this world too.

I think yoda's species is meant to mirror the original sith species in regards to their primal connection to the force. The sith were so connected to the dark side of the force that they actively helped it grow and become stronger. In return they learned to control it to the point where it powered their technology and every aspect of who they were as a culture. I believe this is the case with Yoda's species because they seen what happened to the sith when they got too reckless.

I would love to see a “what if” where Yoda briefly turns like Revan did just to annihilate Sidious.

my theory of what is Yoda's Species, is that it is simply "Jedi" since the Sith were their own race, but the name was taken for dark side users.

"Luke will be able to help grogu process these emotions properly" this couldn't have been more wrong haha

I remember in the clone wars animated series that when meeting the force ghost of Qui Gon Jinn and the [I presume] celestials, Yoda was instructed in preserving his consciousness after death. One of these trials was coming face to face with a dark side version of himself. Yoda initially fought his dark side before finally coming to the realisation that in order to be complete, to merge with the living force, he must accept all parts of himself.
To me this said that while Yoda may have seemed immune to the dark side it was only because of his extreme resistance due to centuries of Jedi dogma. Becoming one with the living force seems to require balance in all things. Even your own dark side.

Is it possible that Yoda's species has a more primal connection to the Force than most any other species, and considering how innately destructive the Dark Side is, to fully give into it would overwhelm and destroy their bodies as well as their minds?

Yoda's species pretty much have what the sith wants " a longer life or a brief immortality" with that in mind there really is no reason for one of his kind to become a sith specially the old cause they know all to well that a long life aint all that great losing your friends and all that. Plus I bet yoda had ticked a few boxes in his bucket list in those 900-1k years not much to regret same for his species

FWIW. Although Minch is officially a separate character than Yoda, the original intent of the writer for the Minch story was that Minch was a young Yoda. It was based on the idea that Yoda's wisdom, especially about the dangers of anger, was based on personal experience. It explored the idea that a young Yoda might have been quick to anger.

Minch's master, T'dai, was named after an all you can eat sushi buffet chain called Todai. Their ship, the Takara, was named after the toy company Takara Tomy. Minch was so named because Yoda's originally going to be Minch.

I am 100% sure of all this because I wrote that story for Star Wars Tales.

I think Revan was the only one who understood neither side has the answer. He understood that there needs to be light and dark and pursued the entirety of the force, he yearned to know everything, no matter what side it was aligned with, and this thirst for knowledge turned him into arguably the most powerful force user that has ever existed. It is possible to used the darkside without being controlled or succcumbing to it, just as it is possible to do good without adhering to the lightside. Revan literally chose the dark side in an effort to save the galaxy but never actually syccumbed to it, he did it out of nessecity, understanding that he had to fight fire with fire to stop the true sith from returning. He was a true strategic genius and astoudingly powerful with the force.

I believe that Minch and Yoda are the same person, and that battle on Dagabah is what caused a change in him.
Because he briefly touched the dark side he became the character that we know .
He dropped his first name and decided to only use his last name, Yoda .
He vowed to only ever use the light side .
Why else would Yoda know about a backwater swamp world like Dagabah ?
After his total failure leading the jedi as their grandmaster, he decided to hide from Emperor Palpatine and Lord Vader on the planet of his other great failure .
Which is probably why he rarely ever spoke of his master, because after his mission on Dagabah
His master was ashamed of him .

I feel like you could make a whole trilogy Just on Yoda's Species, and people would watch the hell out of it.

I would love to see a series on yoda’s origin and his experiences or a series on on grogu as he grows as a being and in the force.

Damn…this was so well laid out and articulated. Seeing stuff like this makes me realize how deep Star Wars is. It opens up a whole different level to enjoy. Thanks for making this.

Yoda's species is badass. Imo their immense power is because they're the analog of the Sith species, & were named "Je'daii" but were inherently tied to the light & gave their knowledge to the galaxy

They "all have people they feel love, and care for, and thus is the source of their power"

This stuck with me because, as you pointed-out, this goes entirely against the Jedi teachings, yet these specific characters go on to be the most powerful Jedi to ever exist.

And, as also mentioned before, they have all delved into the darkside if just to understand it. They control it.

This sounds more like a Grey Jedi philosophy than a true Jedi.

I was excited when in the Mandalorian they mentioned that Din would be taking him home and searching for his homeworld unfortunately that story line was quickly dropped. I love where the show went but the adventure of finding that world and meeting Yoda's people could of been an awesome world building story.

Yoda's interaction with his own dark side reminds me of the old proverb attributed to various cultures about the two animals inside every person, one light and one dark -- the stronger one being the one the person feeds more. It makes sense that every Jedi would have a dark side because they're so powerful and power tends to corrupt even if the person originally intends to use that power for good (as people sometimes say, "the road to Hell is paved with good intentions"). One drawback to power is the potential for succumbing to pride since that has been described as the gateway to other forms of temptation. Also, there is every reason to believe that Jedi despite their extensive training sometimes do still fall prey to anger and fear. If the Jedi were somehow immune or invulnerable to this, then the discipline would not mean as much as it unquestionably does -- and furthermore, while it might be difficult if not impossible to turn Jedi to the way of the Sith, the Jedi would probably also have great difficulty experiencing compassion and empathy for other beings. Perhaps the real challenge for a Jedi is not really learning how to avoid or fight anger and fear but learning how to accept them without giving into them. Yoda's advice to Anakin was always about accepting the possible loss of Padme and Shmi but Anakin either couldn't or wouldn't -- and as a result, at least in Padme's case, he ended up facilitating the one thing he feared most.

The idea of their long lifespan enhancing their perspective, and not having to take the quick and easy path is an amazing insight. This has been a concept I've heard in other scifi genres, but never quite explained properly.
