Also, the group of Asians that is being referred to as the are the highest earners is Indians, who are extremely underrepresented in the Asian umbrella. Like in this video.

Thank you for sharing!! The Asian community is so large and diverse, it’s important to highlight the different lived experiences of these people. Also, to give insight how diverse Asians are: Asians in the UK commonly refer to South Asians while in North America it’s usually referencing East Asians. Big world!!!

Um yeah, that’s how all racial groups work. All black people aren’t just from Ethiopia or Uganda, just like all white people aren’t all from Britain or France. All these races are different groups of cultures and language speakers, Asian aren’t any different.

I just want to say in the late 80s when a large majority of people were escaping from Vietnam and migrating into California.
There was a group of Vietnamese refugees that lived across the street. From where my then-boyfriend lived in HUD housing.

Not only did they work around the clock. They where the fastest group to migrate out of affordable housing.

They started businesses and have grown to be a huge part of the economy of California!

Mad props❤❤❤. It was nice to see the American Dream happen for them. I've never seen a group of people work so hard and achieve so much. ❤

Most Asians are stable though - anecdotally, they live within their means and are generally cheap. Im Asian - we're not stupid with money

I think the Asian community has a lot to be proud of when it comes to their accomplishments in this country and building wealth. As a black person I wish my community would take several pointers from what I see in Asian cultures. Mainly how an Asian household instill a good work ethic in their kids, keep their kids out of trouble, and prioritizing family. My parents were similar and I'm lucky they did raise me and my siblings well and we are all doing alright. Thanks for the insight Vivan!

Asians also typically to stay in HCOL cities. While they have higher income, they also live in locations with higher expenses.

Well said 🎉 my aunt came over post US war and suffered so much from the language barrier, and opted for labor jobs like most immigrant Asians. That’s why most Vietnamese people own nail salons in the U.S. They are some of the most hardworking people.

This is really important to remember. Because society stereotypes Asians as affluent less affluent members of the community can be forgotten or overlooked in terms of social programs, mobility, and even acceptance in the communities. I know many ppl who can barely support themselves yet send most of their incomes back home. Their situations and stories should be part of the narrative. The model minority stereotype that has more to do with class than with heritage.

I’m a caregiver/CNA and I’m not rich like what all my friends in the Philippines assume. We work really really hard to get better lives here in the US. That is what is expected of many Asians: we work hard, we are kind and caring, and we are very disciplined, and reliable. I think that is enough to be proud of, and not just the status.
