Comment the word APPLE, and we’ll send you the link to the strainer we have. We just replaced our strainer that we purchased years ago from a garage sale. It was falling apart, and my sweet hubby knew we’d be preserving more tomatoes and a whole bunch of apples our friends kindly gave to us. I’m completely obsessed with this thing! I love that it works off the grid, and the quality is amazing.

Making applesauce at home is not only easy but also incredibly rewarding. As a beginning canning, this was one of my favorites to make because it’s fairly straightforward. By canning your homemade applesauce, you can enjoy the fresh taste of apples all winter long. Canning applesauce is a great way to preserve the abundance of apples during the fall season, ensuring that you have a healthy, homemade treat ready whenever you need it.

To make your applesauce, start by peeling, coring, and quartering your apples. Cook them down with a little water until they’re soft, then strain them to your desired consistency. We add about 4 tablespoons of organic lemon juice in the pot after straining it because the juice helps preserve the natural color and flavor while preventing spoilage.

When canning your applesauce, be sure to leave a 1/2 inch of headspace in each jar. This space allows for expansion during processing and ensures a proper seal. Process the jars in a boiling water bath for about 20 minutes, then let them cool before labeling and storing them in a cool, dark place.

We added 7 quarts of applesauce to the shelf, and we know you can do it too! Our children can enjoy the sweet taste of homemade applesauce throughout the winter months, knowing it’s free of preservatives and packed with wholesome goodness.

Note: I personally don’t include cinnamon in our applesauce when canning because sometimes I use it as a substitute in recipes. The kids love to sprinkle some on when they’re eating it though.

Happy canning, friends!
